I new the price going in - and for that price I expect a perfectly maintained course and exceptional service in the accompanying resort. PInehurst has some spectacular courses and wonderful, historic buildings, but beyond the visualization of the course and buildings themselves, things are run more like an airport hotel than a five star resort. The food onsite is terrible, the accommodations below par, and you just get the feeling that whoever manages this place doesn't care that much. I compared it to the Ahwahnee is Yosemite - you probably want to go once to experience the history, but you'll be disappointed given the price. In the case of Pinehurst, they don't have the excuse of having to go through government procurement processes and award management to the low bidder.
The greens were in good shape, but the fairways would get the average private country club groundskeeper in hot water.
I will not return.

For a highly rated course, and the price, the course was not in great shape. Many brown areas on the fairways, unrepaired divots, bunkers with inconsistent, mostly thin, sand. The greens were fast and in excellent shape, though, if you could stay on the inverted bowl contours!

A challenging course for all golfers. Sandy areas and wire grass run the length of the fairways, and greens are like inverted saucers-very difficult to hold your approach shot on the green. Truly a classic course.

I played the course in 70 degree weather one week before Christmas. I am just getting back into golf after not playing seriously for 25 years. Playing in early-winter from the white tees (course length of approximately 6,500 yards) allowed me to enjoy a beautiful layout without overwhelming me. The course layout is classic with its fast crowned greens (with false fronts) provided a wonderful day of golf with friends/ family. I will definitely return and try to play all nine (9) of the resort courses, as well as the Bowl, and both putting courses. For the golf enthusiast, this is truly the mecca of American golf. Good luck and "hit em straight".

Historically, it doesn’t get much better in the U.S. than No.2. The clubhouse has tons of photos and memorabilia to remind you of that.
The course is fun to play and is probably as easy a walk as you’ll get. I don’t like walking because my hips and knees are shot, but this was manageable.
Our round was rough because it poured rain for nine holes, which stunk. But what can you do? It’ll give us a good story.
The facility, the staff, the pro shop, the practice area, the restaurants, were all too-notch.
Loved it.

Was fortunate enough to be given a tee time for No. 2 by my family for Christmas. I've grown up admiring this course and always dreamed of playing it. This course was everything I imagined and more!
To begin, the history of this course and Pinehurst at that is incredible. Just walking the same grounds that some of the greatest to ever play have walked will give you chills. Take your time and walk the clubhouse and take it all in!
Everyone we encountered was top notch and friendly as could be. The pro shop, cart guy, starter and forecaddie were all awesome and helpful. I played with my 12 year old son and they all made sure he felt special and included.
The course is a brute. It's not necessarily the fairways or even the waste areas, it's mainly the green complexes. They're basically all humpback and quick. Difficult for an average golfer to land and hold from any distance outside a wedge range. I went in with low expectations about how I would play and met those expectations! A day later a friend asked if I'd play again.....I think I would like to play it again now knowing what I'm up against and how to play the course, but I wouldn't want to take that beating several more times!
Get a caddie! We had Freddy and he was awesome! The reads on and around the greens were spot on. Club recommendations were dead on as well. More importantly he treated my son like he was just like every other adult he caddies for and that was awesome! Really a great experience. I stuck a tee shot on 9 for a tap in 2 and he told us about the "2 on No. 2" coin I could get after my round. Cool idea and memento!
So glad to check this one off the list! Great experience from beginning to end!

Played #2 for the second time and first since the renovation. Loved what they did with the renovation. Best way to play is with a caddie and walk the course. Walk wasn’t difficult. Got to see the Donald Ross old house. Caddies great at green reading and telling ball flight from tees and green approaches. Your still going to get Rossed with balls rolling off. Just enjoy the experience. Surprised they didn’t have something on Donald Ross since his birthday was 11/23. Still course is great but some may not appreciate it. I would play it again.

1) Get a caddie! I don’t care what kind, but listen to me... get a caddie. We are very experienced golfers and play at many different venues. The caddies will EASILY knock 10 strokes off your round. Easy! They will tell how to approach the hole, where’s the best spot to miss and the green reading is just at a level that you will not want to give up strokes. It’s tough enough as it is. We had a range of 8-18 handicaps and I’m telling you, you need a caddie. And just for the experience and conversation, splurge on a single or double bag caddie. You’re at Pinehurst for crying out loud. It’s a place to splurge.
2) I did not heed the advice of a friend who told me to play #2 and NOTHING else for the day. I was on a golf trip! I wanted to play golf but man was I mistaken. #2 is a fine wine and should be appreciated. It’s like sipping on a nice bourbon then taking a shot of Jim Beam right after. Take your time with #2.
3) Speaking of time... we hoofed it in 4.5 hours. Generally a 5 hour round. The group ahead of us had carts and were a threesome. How in the world does the ranger expect us to keep up? It’s asinine. It was a bit of a buzz kill. We were trying to finish in a certain time that it rushed the idea of soaking the experience in. I mean we’re walking in the steps of so many greats, they had us damn near jogging. Everyone broke 100 and one broke 90. We were playing fairly quickly. My suggestion would be to charge more money and spread out the tee times or don’t charge more money and spread out the tee times. Either way, people spend a lot of money to be out there, let them enjoy it!

We played this course on our 2nd day, after playing #8 the afternoon before. Great sequence. The course is great and lived up to its billing. We walked course with caddie, and play was slow. Waited on most shots. Very little drinking water on course, so bring water bottle that you can refill at drinking fountains.

I have played some of the best courses in country including Oakmont, Firestone South, Indian Wells, Mission Hills to name a few and Pinehurst #2 ranks right up there being a unique golf course. It’s definitely different, undulating greens, deep bunkers, and those waste areas will drive you crazy. But I loved the course and will play it again. I highly recommend it.

We are playing number 2 and 8 in a few weeks and wanted to ask if we should be bringing the walk bags or does everyone use carts? if walking, is push carts allowed?
Thank you in advance.

Number 2 if you’ve never played it is best enjoyed walking with a caddie. Be advised it does cost more to have a caddie and be prepared to tip, but their course knowledge is extremely helpful. Number 8 is not a course you want to walk so I would recommend using the cart for that round. Enjoy!

Are you allowed to drive up by the clubhouse to see the grounds and look inside the clubhouse and restaurants?

I believe shorts are fine, but definitely would recommend calling to confirm.
