It wasn’t muddy! Everyone says it is. I can see why the upper trail is shaded well- so wait a few days for it to dry out. We also walked along the shore, it was beautiful and trashed. So much litter wash up! Many were plastic tampons applicators… so sad… they are just as bad as straws to wildlife 🥹Just please always be mindful of your trash!

What a Muddy Boggy Mess. $5 to park and the trail has obviously no maintenance. Very dangerous muddy swampy trail with uprooted rotten trees crossing the trail all the way to the bluffs. We walked the entire trail to the end and opted to walk the beach trail back to avoid the boggy mess. Unfortunately that trail was littered with fallen uprooted trees as well forcing you into the lake or up the dangerous bluff walls.

Nice hike. The bluff scenery was very nice. Not too challenging. The trail was a mix of grass and dirt and was pretty muddy when we did it. Went through a lot of woods so only saw the water now and again.

Was up early one summer day and decided to visit. I parked where it’s closest to the beach below and wandered as far as I could. So beautiful and calming just listening to the lake, No people in site and very few boats on this perfect, sunny morning. Well worth the trip any day.

This park is really lovely with some nice trails and fantastic views of the bluffs. The walk along the lake is rocky so wear good hiking shoes.

Read the maps carefully before you head out to the bluffs. We ended up taking the cliff trail and it was challenging climbing up over fallen trees and close edges. It was worth the view at the end. Decided to take the longer hike back through the forest on the way back.

There are two parking lots. We parked in the free lot to be closer to the trail we wanted. Had a pit toilet house next to the trail head. Start of trail is up about 200 stairs but after that easy walk. Views of the bluffs are beautiful from the top. We tried the Drumlin Trail but was not impressed with it. Just a basic hike in the woods. There is technically beach access. The road just stops and is washed out so you have to climb down to the beach. The kids enjoyed splashing around.

We parked in the free parking lot because it was the closest access to the bluff trail. The initial part of the hike is basically just straight up stairs to the top so that's a little hard but once you get to the top it's an easy walk. Views are great from the top. Only pit toilets at this site. Path down to the lake shore was a little rough (the road just kinda ends and there is a small dirt path off to the side so it's a bit of a scramble to the water. Kids had a good time splashing in the water to cool off after the hike

Spent over an hour here in May. Did the Bluffs Trail
We started the trail on the side with no bluffs and walked toward the side with the bluffs. There are some lengthy stairs on the side with the bluffs. 1/2 of the walk is in the woods and about 1/2 at the bluffs. The bluffs were very scenic.

This is a very nice no-frills state park set up for easy-moderate hiking with great views. The wild card is previous weather as it doesn’t take too much rain to turn the dirt trails to gloppy mud.
The main entrance is on the west side and east to get to. You hike off to the east under a solid tree canopy for about a mile or so gradually uphill until you get to the good parts, the views! Definitely take your camera, the glacial and lake eroded “chimneys” are a remarkable sight, especially on a sunny day. If you have any smaller kids, keep good tabs on them near the top as there are plenty of opportunities for really bad falls with minimal edge fencing. If you want to go down to the beach from there, continue to the east about another 1000 feet before you get to the 200 step wooden stairway down. The final jump onto the beach requires a little creativity as there are no designed entrances.
If you want to go right to the top (and save the $5 parking fee), go to the east side of the park to the lake down E Bay Road to the end. There is parking there right at the base of those 200 steps UP. That’s the more challenging end!

Why would the Bluff Trail be closed? Is there a way to check to see if it's open, before we drive 2 hours each way?

How long did it take to get to the spires? I see from the photos you did this with children. Were there any bathrooms along the way?

Is hiking permitted on the bluffs?

You can hike on the bluff trail or along the lake below the bluffs. You can not walk out onto the bluffs themselves as that is extremely dangerous, and people have died from falls and being burried in the sand. The bluff trail takes you right up to them.

Can you bring your dog? Is there picnic tables and can you bring your own grill

Yes, you can bring dogs on leashes, but I'm pretty sure my husband read that Chimney Bluff is closed due to potential erosion issues. I hope they are able to stop the advancing damage.
