What a beautiful spot! The museum has many great artifacts to see. We both were able to climb to the top and take in the wonderful view of Lake Ontario. Museum staff very helpful and friendly. Don’t miss this if you are in the area!

Take a walk through the history of Sodus Point in NY with a walking tour of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum in Sodus Point, NY. The first thing you'll see is the incredible view from the beautiful grounds along the hills overlooking Lake Ontario. The outside is worth a walk around the property, and then it's time to journey into the Lighthouse Museum. Here you'll find historic artifacts, along with an opportunity to go up into the lighthouse and look out over Lake Ontario from a view you won't get anywhere else. This is one historical site that is well worth the time. and the trip.

We went up to Sodus Bay to retrieve my boat (excellent Honda Marine dealer in Sodus Bay) and decided to drive around before hooking the boat to the truck. The Lighthouse Museum was open and we found it well worth the price of admission.
The staff was friendly, welcoming in fact, and quite knowledgeable about the light house and about Sodus Bay's history in general.
The weather was perfect, the views from the grounds great but make the climb up to the top of the lighthouse. Great perspective of both the bay, the breakwaters and the bay in general, plus of course Chimney. Bluffs and Lake Ontario. Check their open-hours as they are not a 7-day a week operation past Columbus Day and before Memorial Day.
Romantic? Well we did smooch at the top of the light house, if you were looking. ;)

The museum has some nice displays and artifacts. A very small group can go up into the light itself at a time. There is a nice view from the light tower. Small giftshop. Nice gardens outside.

We had a delightful time visiting the lighthouse and touring the museum. Bill and Marsha were both a wealth of information on both the lighthouse itself as well as the history of Sodus Point as a busy shipping port. We had a delightful time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Marsha invited us to come back in the winter to see an entirely different side of things and we expect to do that!

A spectacular view of 2 light houses and gardens. Additional light house museum available. Access to gardens and grounds free. Easy to get to....

We always enjoy just stopping in for the views when in the area. Our timing is never when the museum is actually open. Would enjoy to actually tour it sometime. The grounds are a great place to sit and enjoy the peaceful calm by the lake.

The interior of the lighthouse is closed this summer due to Coronavirus but it is still worth stopping here to see the lighthouse and the beautifully landscaped grounds.
Lighthouse sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Ontario, the Sodus Point Beach, and breaklight.
Lots of beautiful black eyed Susan’s and hydrangeas all around the grounds at the beginning of August.

The MARITIME MUSEUM is chock full of great artifacts and information. Going up the spiral stairs to the top of the lighthouse was a bit nerve racking but a really neat experience. The six dollar fee is a small price to pay for the great history lesson and the gorgeous view from the top.

After hiking Chimney Bluffs, we stopped by the lighthouse to see the museum and climb the lighthouse tower. The house is now a museum and tells the history of the lighthouse and how it got to be more "landlocked" than what you would expect to see for a lighthouse. The grounds are pretty as well and provide some nice photo ops. If a docent is available, be sure to take them up on their offer to describe the artifacts.
