Just a short hike up the hill from either the Jailhouse Motel or the Hotel Nevada. Very nice recreation/restoration of early pioneer houses and stores. Many of the houses are dedicated to the different ethnic groups which worked in the area. Fun thing to do with the kids and lots of photo opportunities.

My kids enjoyed looking through all the houses. The people here were so nice. One lady (Catherine maybe?) Let my kids use her loom and she was so kind and patient with my cranky 6 year old. It's a nice place to stop and look around for an hour or so. The displays did get a bit repetitive after a while. They each had new information, but for the kids they looked kind of similar.

We went in and found out that this was a great stop. Even the train stops so passengers can visit this neat place. We love seeing the history that is displayed here and most likely you will also.. but only if you like having a great time and seeing history in the modern day making.

This effort to preserve the heritages of various ethnic groups that have populated Ely since 1900. Many people and groups have been involved in gathering and displaying the furniture, photos, artifacts, etc. that are displayed at the village. The "open" hours are limited. We had the attention of the volunteer that afternoon and really appreciated all the explanation he gave. There is a bit of Pat Nixon memorabilia here in the "Irish" house since she was born not far from Ely. Do stop in, if you have the chance.

This is somewhat-created village high on the hillside of Ely near the Robinson Canyon railroad tracks. There is even a train stop there although I don't know what you have to do to get it to stop. It stopped for one person on our train ride. The idea of the village is to showcase the different nationalities of early settlers and their houses. The docent said most of the houses were initially moved to that location to be rentals. There is at least one house decorated inside like a specific family of that ethnicity would have had it decorated and furnished. We were there during open hours (admission is by donation or buying something) and there was a docent present just happy to have someone to tell about the place. It was fun and insightful to read the captions and original materials in the various houses.

The village has been nicely preserved. Google maps has the location wrong. You go down 5th Street to Ely street and turn left. We arrived at 3:00 on a Saturday and they were closed but the gardener opened a couple houses for us which was very nice. We also could look through the windows. The houses are furnished for the 1940 Era but the gardener said originally they were houses of "I'll repute "......

Right downtown in a historic building is a really nice casino. They had a good selection of machines and the layout was good. It is a great place to play for a while even though I never win.

This is a cool little enclave of houses, each with a different ethnicity featured with décor of the time. Check for the rhours that they are open though. Weddings are held here and bridges can arrive by train. Very cool stop for an hour or two.
