Beautiful serene park. Hatchery is a big win with children of all ages! Small fishing area is great for children. Can sit on benches and relax to the sound of the springs all day. Park hosts fun family events throughout the summer. Great for events from Picnics to weddings.

We’ve stopped at Giant Springs a few times while traveling through Great Falls. It’s a beautiful spot to stretch your legs and take in the Missouri River. The beautiful springs empty into the Roe River (world’s shortest river), which then empties into the Missouri River. You can also view Black Eagle Falls and Rainbow Falls on the drive along the Missouri. There is a small entry fee for the park.

This is a wonderful park. There is a small fish hatchery, trails, picnic areas, and the springs. The falls were beautiful. We walked part of the trail in the park along side the river. The museum provides a self guided tour of the history of the hatchery. Best was the BIG fish!

If you stop at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center you should mosey down the road to Giant Springs State Park. A nice well maintained facility containing a park, fish hatchery, trail system, and, of course, the spring. Bubbling up adjacent to the Missouri River, Giant Spring is the headwaters of what may be the shortest river in the world! A great spot to relax, have a picnic lunch, or just take a breath between stops on your vacation.

This spring forms the "shortest river" - it is fascinating to watch the water bubble up and form a stunning waterway.

This is a Beautiful Park. Clear sparkling water bubbling everywhere. The fish pools has the biggest fish I've ever seen. The History museum tells how it got started & they start the eggs, ect.

The shortest river meets the longest river. The Giant Spring delivers fresh water into the Missouri River today and for hundreds of years. Beautiful setting. Bring a picnic!

Giant Springs State Park is a Great Falls must see. There is the uniqueness of it being the shortest river in the world, the geology behind it is fascinating, and the spot itself is totally gorgeous.

How far of a walk is it from the parking lot to the springs? I have a bad knee.....
Ditulis pada 21 Januari 2018
From the parking lot to the spring it’s 400 yards approximately on a concrete sidewalk. There’s a nice ramp intended for handicap accessible access. I think you should have an enjoyable experience.

Is there a driving route for autos or just hiking trails?
Ditulis pada 20 Januari 2018
You can drive down to and around the general area. To actually see the spring and the beautiful park area you need to walk the developed paths.

Hi Hannah,
Residents of Montana pay their Parks Day Use Fees when they register their vehicles in the State Of Montana. If they opt-out of the registration fee, then they, along with Non-residents are required to pay at the time of their visit. Fees are as follows:
$6.00 for one non-resident vehicle, daily
$4.00 for each non-resident pedestrian/bicyclist, daily
OR
$35.00 for a yearly Montana State Parks Pass.
We are open year-round, sunrise to sunset daily. Though the Ranger Station may not be open at all times, there is also an iron ranger to pay your fees.
Montana State Parks rely heavily on Parks fees as their primary source of income. State Parks need those fees to keep up with maintenance and infrastructure costs. We appreciate everyone complying with the fee requirement.

If I have 4 hours to hike at Giant Springs State Park, which side of the river should I choose?

It really depends on what you are looking for in a hike. There are hiking trails on both the North Shore and the South Shore of Giant Springs State Park. The trails near the Springs and the hatchery are all paved, but provide a great view of the Missouri River, Giant Springs, and then a great nature walk. Lewis and Clark Overlook & Trailhead provides access to both paved and dirt trails that are more of a 'hike'. These will give you great views of Rainbow Dam and the falls, and definitely get you out into nature as well. That can also be said for the Morony Dam Trailhead. This trail takes you out to the Sulphur Springs, which was said to have cured Sacajawea in 1805 when the Corps of Discovery came through the area. It is a half day hike, so remember to prepare with water and food.
I hope this helps. Please contact us with any other questions you may have. (406) 727-1212

Starswept and Frank are correct.
The fish hatchery is located next to the Missouri River behind the springs at Giant Springs State Park. Just follow the sidewalk down past the Ranger Station (aka info center). On your right you'll see the bathrooms, the building to which they are attached is the Fish Hatchery (indoor portion) where the fisheries staff raise the smaller fish. You can peek in by visiting the visitor center (the double doors near bathrooms). But there is no public access to the runs or the actual facility unless you schedule an official tour.
Continue past that and you will come across the fenced in viewing pond where visitors can feed the fish,
Hope that helps!
Thanks.

Where do I find information on the days and times the Fish Hatchery is open?
I will be in Great Falls on Sunday, July 12th

Hi Ana,
So the hatchery IS actually open on the weekends now that it is warming up. The hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm everyday. The hatchery is located within the park next to the springs. You can hand feed the fish in the feeding pond for a nickel or take a self-guided tour of the hatchery's visitor center.
The park itself is open everyday from 8 am to Sunset (which is about 7:30 PM right now, but will become later as the summer days lengthen.) You can walk the trails along the Missouri River, check out the springs and falls and overall just enjoy a day in the park.
If you have any further questions please feel free to call us at the the Giant Springs State Park Ranger Station at 406-727-1212.
Also just a heads up... on Sunday July 12th we will be hosting our Summer Concert Series from 6-730 pm. We will be featuring Tom Catmull's Radiostatic. The event is free to attend-you just need to bring something to sit on and snack on.
Hope that helps!
