Magical place to walk

This time we didn't walk the whole trail and equally had a wonderful time. It is such a magical place to walk. Go early in the morning and do not wear shoes.

Quite the walk!

At the recommendation of a lady we met at the Truro Winery, my wife and I went on the Dune Shack Trail on our way into Provincetown for the weekend. This was quite the 2 mile walk! Views were spectacular and we had never seen dunes like this. Enjoy the walk… lots of uphill, but then downhill. Just stop and pause and look around and listen to the quietness.

A different kind of hike; Must do.

It is a fairly strenuous 1.4 mile hike up and down steep sandy hills to the ocean. It took us about 35 minutes including many stops for photos. The beach at the end was nice enough but not swimable, as the waves were quite strong and there were several seals by the shoreline. There is zero shade and no facilities, so be sure to bring plenty of water. The views are stunning and the expanse of untouched desert-like surroundings was like nothing Ive ever seen. It was truely an amazing experience, worth the effort.

hiking the dunes at the Cape Cod National Seashore. The town of Provincetown is very interesting. It has good restaurants. On the other hand, it was very crowded and parking was difficult.

Awesome, unique hike!!

I took this hike with husband and 3 kids (age 22, 20, and 17) and it was perfect. The entire hike took one and a half hours, including a short stop at the beach. I wore my sneakers the whole time, while my kids went barefoot. We went on a cloudy morning, which I HIGHLY recommend, since there is no shade on the entire trail. I can’t imagine doing this hike on a hot day with full sun; it would be brutal. There are a few hills in the dunes and they are quite a workout to climb. I’m not in great shape but managed fine (although I was considerably slower than my kids!). Views are great and well worth the effort. Bring water and sunscreen and enjoy!

Let down of walk and waste of my time

Totally overrated. Hardly a shack to see. I was expecting all the writers. The walk is hot and hard inclined walking.

Beautiful dunes

We decided to do art dune tours this year and loved experiencing the dunes in an SUV. This is the 2nd year we.couldnt go to the beach due to the birds nesting. So just watch the bird schedule

Stiff climbs and descents

The stiff climbs are for younger hikers. Beautiful views! We got a glimpse of the blue Atlantic Ocean two miles away through dune grass and low trees.

The sign does warn that it’s a strenuous hike. Drinking water is essential when hiking in the heat of summer. In November, the dune must be soothing to bare feet.

Digging the Dunes!

We had a great hike from Rte. 6 to the ocean across the dunes. A group of 8 of varied fitness, we took our time. It took 45 minutes to arrive at the beach, but it was a leisurely pace. Then we spent 20 minutes looking for seals before heading back. My calves were tight the morning after from all the sand walking and climbing, but it felt great to wander in such a scenic and windswept place. We hiked between downpours, so didn't have trouble with sun or heat.

This was one of THE most informative and enertaining adventures ever! The dunes and shacks, and their history, is fascinating! We had Mark C who was absolutely PHENOMENAL! This is something you cannot miss!
