This is where you can sit, swim and relax. Parking is expensive but is is an all day price we went for lunch and came back. The price is worth it you can sit and enjoy this beautiful beach where you will not risk your life with big waves of other beaches. There are outdoor showers a huge playground and facilities. Love this beach and park!

Beautiful beach!! The grounds area is very pretty including a playground and bathrooms. There is a small shallow swimming area with lifeguards and this beach has terrific views of the harbor especially the Hyannis Yacht Club. This is a great beach for families, couples and more.

such a lovely beach. quiet place to get shells and just enjoy being by the water. all the beaches in this area were wonderful.

This was a wonderful small little beach!
Quiet, friendly people, lots of friendly geese! The only down side (no fault of the beach) was that it was REALLY windy and my umbrella wouldn't hold.
Maybe check the weather before you go! :)

Visited the park while touring Cape Cod with a group of seniors.
Veterans Memorial Park is located on Veterans Beach overlooking Lewis Bay. It includes the John F. Kennedy Memorial and the Cape and Island Korean War Veterans Memorial.
The memorials are awesome and a “must visit” type of attraction. A wonder tribute and piece of history.

We walked to the park after having lunch nearby and I’m so glad we did. The memorial itself is beautiful and well maintained and there is a gorgeous beach behind it. We ended up walking 2 the beach and spending time there as the water was so calm and our kids enjoyed catching some sea creatures. There is a small lot where u can park for free for up to a 1/2 hour 2 visit the park.

We stopped to view the JFK Memorial and took a short walk around the park. Nice beach area with calm water-perfect for small children. There was a clean bathroom on site and the parking was free. We spent some time looking out at the boats in the water. Perfect spot for some quiet reflection.

Because this beach is within LEWIS BAY it is sheltered from the ATLANTIC swells and would rarely get disturbed water – so parents and beach neophytes need not worry about dumping waves and associated rip-currents. The bay is also shallow making it possible for non-swimmers to wade considerable distances off the sand. All the same (and despite lifeguards thru the summer), parents should keep a close eye on their kids – they can get into trouble so quickly even in seemingly benign areas.
The beach is about 280m long and plenty wide from the top of the tide to back of beach. It was uncrowded on a nice weekday a fortnight before LABOR DAY. I wouldn’t write home to mum about the sand – it was closer to tan-yellow than white and had quite a lot of shell fragments and small stones near the water. These stones continued into the water but were rounded and not a big problem for waders.
I found water within LEWIS BAY slightly warmer than ocean facing beaches.
There is a big parking lot but it is expensive at $20 no matter how long you stay (see TIPS below). The good news is entry if free if you walk, cycle or bus in.
The PARK AREA behind the beach is rather nice. It is not tiny at about 280x130m and is a mixture of grassed and semi-treed areas. It contains the JFK and KOREAN WAR memorials (both worth spending time), picnic and bbq facilities, a kids’ playground, change sheds, a food concession and lifequards’ hangout.
MY RATING – I’m rating it ABOVE AVERAGE solely on the basis of being a family beach. For folk wanting to combine a beach visit with paying respects to people vital in the nation’s development I’d rate the same. I avoid an EXCELLENT rating because of the expensive parking.
As a general beach I would not go above an AVERAGE rating – I’m a beach blogger with over 3million hits, visited thousands of beaches over the years and although this is not a bad strip of sand it is far from the very best.
TIPS – you can use your $20 parking ticket at 3 other BARNSTABLE area beaches on the same day if you are up for a beach crawl.
- there is no parking charge after LABOR DAY
- there is a smaller half hour parking lot adjacent the associated KENNEDY MEMORIAL for those just wanting to call in and check the sand or memorial areas.
- this is an easy beach to access. It is only 1KM south of the busy HYANNIS INNER HARBOUR area with another 400m to the MAIN ST (another 250m to the regional bus station (HYANNIS TRANSPORTATION CENTER).
It is on the HYANNIS TROLLEY route – a free summer service with a 45 minute rotation starting at the TRANSPORT CENTER and doing an anti-clockwise route past main points of interest – the beach is about 70% along the route.

This is beside the JFK memorial and overlooks the seashore. Beautiful area with trees and grass and well maintained.

We parked by the JFK Memorial and parking was free up there. I don’t believe there was any charge for the lot closest to the beach.
