There are plenty of reasons the Atwood Museum won the Tripadvisor award. It is a wonderful museum telling the story of Chatham area. The docents are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits are interesting and extremely well designed. The Gallery Barn contained an amazing exhibition of murals about the community by a local artist. Our hats are off the the volunteers and board of directors who manage, run and maintain this gem of a local museum.

The two of us visited the museum earlier this week. We are history buffs and architecture enthusiasts, and also own a 300+-year-old home ourselves. We were extremely impressed with the condition of the house/museum, fascinated with the various "artifacts" and features of the home, and very appreciative of the excellent tour presented by Barbara. They do a great job showcasing the home and explaining many details of the family's life there. Certainly one of our favorite recent antique home visits and tours. Highly recommended!!

The Atwood Museum is a wonderful peak into Cape Cod history. Barbara delivered the guided tour of the Main House beautifully and I loved soaking in her knowledge of the property, as well as the area. I have been coming to Eastham my whole life and this was my first time to the museum. The museum is immaculate, in particular, the linens and garments are in pristine condition, which Barbara readily credited to a few of their amazing, long-time, volunteers. I highly recommend a visit to the Atwood Museum!!!!

My husband I both enjoyed the informative and fun visit to this unique museum! My favorite part was the tour by Barbara through the Atwood home (so many interesting historical items and information) and my husband loved the short film about the rescue of the Pendleton crew by the Chatham coast guard. As a painter, I also loved the mural exhibit and Ron’s facts about the artist and her works (never heard of her before, the murals are so impressive). The Chatham Historical Society has done a great job preserving and sharing this local treasure. Highly recommend a visit here!

It's interesting enough, but honestly don't get the hype. Maybe it's because there is very little to do in Chatham when it rains (which is when we went)? Either way, the home tour is interesting if you get the right guide, and the little museum in back is nice, albiet quirky.

This was a really interesting and educational experience that really provided a flavor for the maritime history of Cape Cod and what life was like 200 years ago … the museum artifacts and attached art exhibit were well assembled and told a story, but the highlight of the visit was the tour of the house led by Anthony. He was so knowledgeable about the house and the family and the local history - it was a great tour.

This museum is SO much more than its website would have you expect. Barbara gave us a fabulous tour of the original parts of the house. A young man gave us a humorous and informative tour of the paintings in the "Barn". The paintings made you smile as they captured the personalities of the locals in the period of 1933 - 44 or so. Additionally, there were several rooms filled with information displayed in a way to pique your curiosity.

Lovely small museum full of historic artifacts and the history of Cape Cod, Chatham in particular. Many maritime photos, old nautical implements, and interesting stories of the time. But the best is the 1700’s Atwood house with period settings in each room, including costumes. Artifacts of each century are displayed to experience how folks lived at that time. The docents give lively narration and make the house come alive. Children can follow along with a picture board to discover multiple artifacts.
