Very average

This museum is really directed at Dutch people. If you are not familiar with the flood just don't go you will be lost. It is lacking explanations and many many many pieces do not have an English translation.
I would have like to learn more instead of being showed how a house decor looked liked in the 50s...

Very nice museum

The museum is very interesting, placed in the casons of the former dike which was among the ones that broke in the 1953 disaster. It is a sad museum but very nicely made. They bring memories of people that lost their lives back to living. On the end there is a nice video and interactive part of the modern age threats of the water, which brings you to thinking about global warming and issues regarding the waters impact on humanity.

Great museum

Great museum. It tells the tale of the flood of 1953, the subsequent construction of the delta works and the world wide danger of water and climate change. Both traditional and modern techniques are applied to create an interesting and informative experience for both young and old visitors.

We visited this museum on the last day from our 3 weeks exploring the Netherlands instead of Vietnam.
Last week we stayed in Renesse and this is a must see when you are in the area.

1953 flooding in Zeeland & history of the Dutch fighting the water
Feb 2020
Important piece of recent Dutch history, mostly about the big flooding in 1953 in Zeeland.
Several building shaped like the solution the Dutch put into place to keep the water out in the SW of the Netherlands. A few very good short films with original film material. Quite a few things for kids to do as well.
Worthwhile visit.

Watersnood Museum Visit
Des 2019 • Keluarga
Visiting the Watersnood Museum is off the beaten path, so you may need to rent a car with GPS, as we did from Schiphol Airport. It’s an easy 1.5 hour drive from Amsterdam, and road signs are in Dutch and English. We wanted to learn how the Dutch managed their intricate dike system since much of the world faces the threat of global sea level rise. You can watch films and see hundreds of relics and exhibits from the great flood in 1953 that killed over 1,800 Dutch citizens. The exhibition goes into great detail about the engineering feats that stopped the deadly dike breaches. The bookstore sells materials on water management and global sea level rise in many languages. Outside, you can climb up a platform to gaze across the vast dike system and nearby oceanside in a very tranquil setting. A cafe is also onsite.

Water- Friend and/or Ennemy?
Sep 2019
What happened in the Netherlands in the night of February 1st 1953 was a disaster with many detahs caused by inundations. The Delta Works were the (technical) answer but with water levels rising due to climate change, the future for half of the Netherlands is not "safe". The museum explains very well what happened and could happen again if not another ambitious plan is executedagain

A great museum worthy of a detour to visit
Agt 2019
Being Dutch, we knew quite a bit about the events of the 1st of February 1953. However, the museum brought it alive in a great engaging way, suitable for all ages and levels of interest. Built inside some of the caissons used to close the dykes after the disaster, caissons which were originally built for the D-Day invasion, the entire museum is steeped in significance. We really enjoyed it. Takes 2 - 3 hours certainly. There is a restaurant just outside for some refreshments. Parking is easy and nice to go for a walk in the area as well. We were very impressed.

Incredible museum of the creative international effort to save the Netherlands for continuing flood destruction
Sep 2018
A visual display of the history of the Netherlands floods destructive power and efforts to prevent further loss of life. Amazing displays to show the human sacrifices based on decades of loss in property and lives.
