This was a unique birthday gift for our son. We had never done this before and it was fabulous! It is a weather dependent experience but our captain made up for it by taking us to a beautiful bridge and parking underneath it for photos. The price is reasonable for the 3 hour trip. Always looking for something a bit different and this fits the bill.

Spectacular view, amazing architectural feat

The view was amazing. Driving was not a challenge - plenty of shoulder room. During peak times, heavy traffic results in slower speeds.

The world's largest cable-stayed concrete bridge--and most beautiful, too

I remember when you had two choices to travel from St. Petersburg, Florida, to the St. Armands Circle shopping center in Sarasota, Florida. Either you drove through Tampa and around Tampa Bay or you took a ferry from St. Petersburg to Bradenton, then on to Sarasota. The ferry ran from 1929 to the opening of the first Sunshine Skyway bridge in 1954. The original bridge, a two-lane beam bridge with a central truss bridge, was built directly to the west of the current structure with a second span added in 1971. But the original bridge was the site of two major maritime disasters over a four-month period, the second of which resulted in the bridge's partial destruction and eventual replacement. On May 9, 1980, a freighter collided with a support pier near the center of the bridge during a sudden squall, resulting in the catastrophic collapse of the southbound roadway and the deaths of 35 people when several vehicles, including a Greyhound bus, plunged into Tampa Bay. The current bridge, the world's largest cable-stayed concrete bridge, opened in 1987. It spans Tampa Bay and connects St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia, covering a distance of 4.4 miles. The four-lane bridge carries I-275 and U.S. Route 19, passing through Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties, all for a toll fee of $1.50. It offers a magnificent view of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and is the most beautiful architectural structure of its kind that I have ever seen.

Awesome Bridge

Many reviewers say it is just a bridge and yes that is true but when you come upon it unexpectedly it makes you say “wow”. A little scary if you are afraid of heights but pretty cool. It has a Rest Area near it which people go fishing, watch the boats go by & swim. I personally would not swim where people are fishing near a bridge (think sharks). It is a scenic stop if you are passing through.

We went night fishing and we caught a good amount of cat fish. It wasn't too windy and it was actually nice out side. Also I caught my 1st fish in 25 years!

It’s a bridge. Nice drive on a pretty sunny day, but it’s just a bridge! Because it’s so iconic to the area that’s why we included it during her visit to Tampa.

What a view from the bridge!

A Bridge Worth Traversing

Awesome bridge. Go over it when it is sunny and at night. 2 different wonderful looks!
Heading south it is a little scary, but a wonder of the world!

Cool Bridge!

Had some spare time one day while visiting St. Petersburg, so drove over this bridge. When I went, tolls were waived, but if they weren’t I think it was like a dollar each way. The bridge is really cool to drive over and the views are great! The bridge also has little piers with parking areas that would be cool to explore if you had the time.

I love going over this bridge. The view is amazing. They have to close it when it's windy. I've flown over it, drove over it and cruised under it.
