This is one of the most beautiful places in Shropshire. A totally unique Church in a river setting which is peaceful
and inspiring. Best visited on a sunny day and avoid times when the river is flooded.

An amazing little find on the (very swollen) river bank. All wood but no nails and a lovely balcony.

An earlier church on the site was burnt down in 1401 by Owain Glyndwr during the Welsh uprising and the present replacement wooden structure was built in 1406, nine years before the the victory of Henry the Fifth at the battle of Agincourt. It is tempting to think of British bowmen coming from the area and attending the church. The building is an absolute delight, simple, with a few fascinating artefacts and it was a privilege to visit.

Firstly and most importantly; This church is not where it appears on the TripAdvisor map - namely it’s not south of Much Wenlock, but west of Shrewsbury in Melverley (as you may guess)
That aside, this is a beautiful little church dating back centuries although renovated on a regular basis since. Absolutely charming location next the river. The church appears largely accessible throughout and the pulpit and balcony area are suitably rickety.

Like something out of a storybook...this church is quaint and really unusual. Worth a visit just to look, sit and marvel at it's structure.

When I first saw this church I knew it was special and on entering I was just blown away. It is thrilling to think that people have visited and sat on those same pews since the middle ages. It is beautifully preserved by the parishioners who obviously love it and are very welcoming, wanting you to enjoy it too. Further information about its history is available on their website. The setting is beautiful, on the Welsh/English border. It was especially pretty at the time of my visit with pots of bulbs blooming in the spring sunshine. If visitors from abroad want to see a glimpse of how England was, this is the place, it is well worth the trip out from Shrewsbury or Oswestry.

Visited whilst staying close by. Stunning building, well worth the visit! Built in wood we were amazed with the bending walls and slanting balcony.

Charming wooden church nestled in the countryside. Walk in and you are transported back several hundred years; you can really feel the centuries of worship and all the love and care that the parishioners have given this place. Really peaceful and well worth the trip.

We have visited st Peters many times a wonderful experience. so much history and love . Open every day . Do take time for a quiet walk around or just sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity..

This church was right next to the campsite we were staying on. It was most definitely worth a look & always seems to be open.
