Wonderful example of ancient celtic works.
Travelbugged should maybe take a breath and embrace the surroundings before sounding off.

Beltany Stone Circle is a gem to visit. The 64 stones are situated in a landscape with a great view and the stones themselves are as diverse as we humans - an assembly of diverseness in unity. Be gentle and respect the place as a presence in the landscape.

Ancient, stunning, the walk up to the circle is gorgeous, the circle's energy is amazing. Make sure you have sturdy shoes on as very uneven surfaces.

No dogs,no camping,no breathing,no food, no doing this no doing that....
Basically you're walking up there to look at some stones even the historians don't know what they are for, better forest walk across from main gate, play in the trees instead. Or dander down to town and laugh at the many alcoholics that infest this horrid area ....

We had printed out the directions but then were able to find sign posts on the way. It is well worth the walk up from the car park. When we were there on St Stephen’s Day we were alone except for someone who was retrieving a couple of Elves on the Shelf who had surprised his children earlier in the day when they had taken a walk up to the stones.

A convoluted road with few signes, a parking next to an ag industrial lot adjacent to a magical old road through a tunnel of wonderful overhanging trees to a sheep pasture opening and a view of an incredible stone circle. While smaller than Avebury, its evocative of that place left in its contemporary setting with an amazing view!

This is a great hidden gem. Take the time and seek it out. No tourists only you and ancient history. The site is well marked and there is an awesome tree tunnel you walk through to get there. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the site. Look for the Fairy tree on the left side just before you get to the field.

Beautiful spot, the only other visitors than our group were sheep who graze around the varied and ancient stones. On second thought I think the sheep were locals. It's a short walk to the circle along stones walls flowers and a forest.

Gorgeous scenery and isolated location make this stone circle very special. There are no huge line ups, tours, or even admission. It is in the middle of a hilltop field, with amazing views all round. The energy, like so many of the ancient sites in Ireland, is very powerful and spiritual. A few people visited while I was there, but mostly I had the place to myself to sit in the middle of the circle and meditate, or rather feel like I was being meditated upon! If you want to experience the untouched essence of Ireland, give Beltany Stone Circle a visit. You won't regret it!

We were doing a Tour of various sites in Donegal with our in-laws. We saw an opportunity to explore the Beltany Stone Circle. It is well signposted, and the entrance is beside the Department of Agriculture Research Station. There is only a small parking area for up to 6 cars. Coaches beware!
You climb a steep wide path not wheelchair friendly. Then you see the Stonehenge of Donegal on front of you. It is a large stone circle and remains mostly as it was found long ago.
Information is scant enough so I suspect given the proper funding possibly the site may get much needed development. There are little or no markings to give amateurish archeology students like me a clue. There were great views around and below us. Well worth the climb. Best of all it is free.

How far a walk is the circle from where you can leave a car? Thanka.

A few hundred meters :-) There is a parking place and you walk up a path and turn left. You can’t miss it. Enjoy!

Are there signs to get you there or is there a tourist info centre that will have that info?
