This is a must see if you visit Barmouth, especially on a clear day.
The Frenchman’s grave is also worth a look.

Walked up here over the weekend. A very steep walk, need to be in reasonable good health to do this. We went up one way and down the other which was through a forest. The latter was very steep. It was a clear day and we could see the views in the distance, and the local town. We had a photo and came back down.

steep walk up to the top for a view over Barmouth. A few signs make it fairly easy to find the route - just keep going up! Takes about 45mins up and down. Was a bit foggy the day we went so didn't get great views but still worth it.

As a NT volunteer in York, it was really interesting to see the first property donated to the charity back in 1895. 4.5 acres of gorse covered hillside was given to the Trust for protection and is a beautiful place to visit. The walks are steep, but the views are well worth the effort.

The scenery is fantastic (on a fine day :)) The OS Explorer map doesn't really show all the footpaths in this area. Take care!

Definitely worth taking some time out to walk up to Dinas Oleu. There are some fantastic views from up there so remember to take a camera! Some of the walk is quite steep and not easy if you're not used to much walking.

Can be as long or as short as you want 1-2 hrs approx. Trail at the top not as well signposted but the view from the bench at the top of the bay is worth it. Need boots. Take sandwiches and a thermos of tea to enjoy from the top. I really enjoyed this walk on Boxing day.

On a recent Tuesday, Hubby and I decided to go for a trek to explore Dinas Oleu which is a 4.5 piece of land donated to The National Trust by Mrs. Fanny Talbot on 29.3.1895. We started off from the Town Centre (from the market car park next to The Factory Shop). There was a brown tourist sign pointing across the road so we crossed the HIgh Street and went up Dinas Oleu Road. We followed the small National Trust arrows up to a gorse-covered hilltop to an official view point. Here we enjoyed a panoramic view of Cardigan Bay and the Mawddach Estuary.

We then continued threading our way around until we reached Ty'n Ffynnon (Fountain House). This is where Fanny Talbot lived until she died in 1917 aged 93. She was the 1st donor of land to the National Trust. There was a commemorative slate plaque on the exterior wall.

We then made our descent through the maze of alleyways, admiring the quirky cottages along the way, until we were back down on the main HIgh Street. We then went to The Harbour, looked up, and were surprised how high our trail had taken us that day.

Slogged up via the steps by the harbour cottages on a blazing hot day. Fitness definitely required for this route. Also in full sun for most of the way. Amazing vistas along the Panorama walk and a lovely view over Barmouth from Dinas Oleu itself. Worth every step of the way. The cold pint of lager outside the Tal y Don pub back in the town was well earned. Would not recommend it for the elderly or people with lazy kids. Otherwise just do it : )

A lovely place to walk (though steep at the start!) and leads to some beautiful routes over the hills. Gives a good view over Barmouth and of the bridge across the estuary.
