Great museum which is free to visit Tells the story of dad army perfectly plus a nice cafe on site.Also lots of dad army sites like Jones shop to see around Thetford.Also don't miss the Captain seat on his bench by the bridge.

Let’s hope this fabulous place is never ‘doomed’!!

Wow! What an amazing experience - thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers for making our visit so special…from the informative and friendly welcome on the door, to the fantastic staff who happily answered all questions with genuine enthusiasm and great knowledge and the lovely folk at the gift shop - they were all an absolute credit to this brilliant attraction. Our little doggy was also greeted with smiles and lots of pats and we were lucky enough to get our photo taken with one of ‘cast’ at the entrance too - the photo was readily taken by the doorman so we could all be on the picture which was a nice gesture. This free attraction is just stunning and a great tribute - we bought a fair few goodies at the gift shop and will definitely be back next time we visit the area.

Informative, entertaining - a joy to visit

Excellent museum visit and guided walking tour last weekend, our son, in his twenties, particularly enjoyed it.

Great way to kick off, seeing Jones’ famous van then c.90 minutes flew by as we were taken round various points of interest around the town, at each one being given an informative and entertaining talk as to their significance to the show and some of the key scenes filmed there, interspersed with several amusing anecdotes about the cast and the days spent filming in Thetford.

The guides were, to a man, clearly very knowledgeable about Dads’ Army, but what really shone through was their sheer enthusiasm for the show, it’s characters and writers. They were all keen to strike up conversation about the show both whilst walking between stops and back at the museum rather than just waiting to be asked questions. At the final stop, the ‘town hall’, we loved the way we were led to discover the superb mural pictured.

The museum itself was packed with a wide and varied range of exhibits, including private photographs taken by locals during filming, original scripts and costumes, e.g. Jones’ dress uniform and medals.

Marigold tea rooms looked straight out of the forties and provided a welcome cup of tea - in proper cups - at the end of the walk.

Would recommend to anyone with even a casual interest in Dads’ Army, for people who love the show like the three of us, it’s a must.

Big thanks to all involved in putting this together

Now for the coach tour next year - just seen bookings start in December!

Only open on Saturdays at the moment, a nice small museum staffed by keen and pleasant volunteers [Ithink!] . Nice displays of items relevant to the TV series and the Home Guard. Probably of most interest to those who have watched and loved the TV series - and there are a lot of them!
Admission free but hopefully visitors are generous with their donations.

Great day out

we really enjoyed our walking tour which was informative and interesting . we were lucky with the weather and the dry sunny day helped to make the walk though Thetford fun. The guides were friendly and had lots of handouts with photos of the cast in different episodes to match the places of interest. The tour ends back in the museum for Tea and biscuits served in the pretty T room by two nice cheerful ladies with plenty of biscuits and T in a nice cup and saucer. The museum gives plenty of photo opportunities and lots of interesting facts about Dads Army

Very authentic Dads army museum

The museum was great, albeit a bit small. The marigold tea room was an added bonus. But the shop could have used more affordable dads army merch.

Incredible Day Out To Put On Ze List.

Visited today with family from Nottingham and was Such a nice place, very knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers with plenty to see in and outside the museum.

The artwork in and around the area was incredible and seeing people dressed as the cast walking around was great.

Topped off by a visit to the statue and the Jones van just a 5 minute walk away plus ample parking in the area at zero cost.

Definitely Five stars me and my son went to fetford for the weekend loved it and if your a dads army fan go check out the dads army museum exallent me and my son are going to come back for a week loved it

A thoroughly amazing experience for a huge fan of the show. Called in advance to check if it was open and we needed to book, we didn’t but would advise calling to check opening hours. Would loved to have done an official tour of the town but walking around before and after was enough to transport me into a virtual episode.

All the volunteers and actors were excellent. This is an absolute must for any fans out there and of course donations gifted by all our party to ensure it continues long into the future!

Wonderful Dad’s Army Museum & Coach Trip!

Enjoyed a great day out on one of the scheduled coach trips. Visited many of the locations used by Croft & Perry for the sitcom, plus some very interesting travels around the periphery of some of the real life places of interest for the 2nd world war. A very good mix, and excellent commentary provided by Stuart and his helpful and enthusiastic team: ask them anything!

Upon our return, tea and scones were provided by the lovely ladies, dressed in some very authentic war time costumes. What a lovely place this is, and so much to do in the surrounding area. Thetford is a great town too,
