Well preserved column to show how high the waters have come up in flood periods. Impressive to imagine how the city got flooded so many times and so high.

Down on the river front, there’s a post with marked water hights through the ages. Amazing how high water has been her. Easy to find, right off the main street and along the riverside.

Walked passed this on my day out around Ribe. Yep it’s a wooden pole with brass rings on it denoting great floods.
If it was in England thieving gypsies would have stole them years ago. But as everything is around Ribe it’s perfect as is Ribe itself.
Enjoy my pole.

The flood column isn’t really much to behold on it’s own, but the area is very picturesque and definitely worth the short walk from the main street of Ribe

Definitely visit beautiful Ribe when touring Denmark! We stopped here to see the Flood Column on a walking tour of the town. Very scenic picturesque spot.

This column is situated right next to the river. Its impressive to see the different heights of the flood. The walk down to it takes you along a very pretty street. On Wednesdays in Summer there is a flea market with loads of stalls. If you keep walking you get to the remains of the castle. Plenty of seating along the river.

Careful it is really easy to miss. The pole itself has importance to but the you can take great pictures by the water bank and chill out with a cup of coffee or waffle you buy nearby.
