This had various interesting exhibits including a temporary exhibition on the Sillk Road plus a permanent collection of magnificent tri-coloured Tang ceramics (~600-900 AD). The technology enabling construction of those figures was very advanced for the time.

This museum provides an excellent overview of ancient China from the Paleolithic to Tang. The Tang collections were especially deep. Since we could not get tickets to the Shaanxi Museum in Xi’an, this was an excellent alternative. Brief English explanations are provided.

Beiwei - Northern Wie Dynasty was on Display.
I only had time to visit this part.
The museum is really spacious and is worth to spend more time there!
Luoyang has a great history - so there is a lot to see.
We had free entrance!

The first thing that would shock you is the size of this museum - an enormous edifice that is surprisingly big even for China. We planned a couple of hours for this museum, and could not see more than a small fraction. What we saw was superb, art and artifacts from various culture, with excellent ancient Near East representation, some Roman and Greek, and an abundance of ancient Chinese artistic products. A fantastic Ghandara Buddhism section, a huge collection of T'ang dynasty san cai figurines, and what not. The conclusion is that if you want to do justice to this museum (and yourself), you should plan at least half a day, if not more. I will come back at the earliest opportunity. The ticket is free when you present an official id.

Luoyang is a much smaller city than Shanghai or Nanjing and we were not expecting to find such a good museum here. It is less crowded than those in the larger towns and contains a similar quality of displays. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Luoyang

Great collection placing Luoyang history in context, especially good on Shang, zhou and northern wei and tang. Good bronzes, great sculpture from the tombs of different periods. Wide range of tang pottery and figures.
Well presented and at least when we went not crowded. Worth seeing also for the imposing exterior. Don’t miss when in Luoyang.

Luoyang is the ancient capital of China so has a lot of history. Whilst there are few structures left of the early years, there are some stunning pieces retrieved from grave and mausoleum excavations. These you can see in the museum. Luoyang is also the main site for Tang pottery (again from excavations) and there are some stunning pieces in the museum, by far the best that we have seen anywhere. If you are in Luoyang, you really should find time to visit this museum. It's not too busy and you can get in free with your passport (tickets from a booth outside the front of the museum). My only criticism of the museum is the building itself which is a vast modern building with lots and lots of empty space in it before you get to any of the display rooms. If these could be used to accommodate a cafe, or to display some large pieces, that would improve it a lot. But the pieces themselves are still world class and they are displayed very well with English descriptions.

A nice new museum with a good layout and enough English to put some of Luoyang's sites in perspective

As ever let me start be getting there.
The Bus you want is the K77, which we boarded on the "Jiefang Road" which feeds onto the "Peony bridge". The Bus will do a couple of lefts and rights but will get there.
Be aware that this bus can go on past the museum depending which timetable it's on.
Don't get confused between the museum building and the local television station, which you pass first. The Museum has a tall sculpture outside that reminds me of an Olympic torch.
Beware the nice bright banner covered entrance doors on the side of the buildings, these are shops with pressure sales types. Walk round to the front, get your free ticket, ( ID needed) and then get inside.
It's been posted that foreign tourists have to get their tickets from a different office than Chinese nationals. Maybe it was quite but we didn't encounter this issue, ( I travel with a Chinese national).
The museum has 2 floors and there are diagrams and if you wish Audio guides. I do not know which languages are available as I never use these. Most of the exhibits are notated in Chinese and English, but not all. There are a number of broad introductions to each section. Those inclined to do so may smile at the choice of words and grammar for the English sections.
For me, this is probably the best museum I have visited in China. The exhibits are of good quality, well grouped and in the main excellently displayed and lighted.
( you have to wonder who opted to display some delicate white jade on an off white Perspex plinth)
If this kind of thing gets you then you will easily spend 3 hours down stairs and about 1.5 hours upstairs. There really are some exquisite items in the collection. Be aware that upstairs flows better if you go up the escalators and go round clockwise. There is one set of rooms that highlights the real "treasures", when you begin to realise how they made it and when you just get stunned.
Luoyang is the Peony capital of the world and there is a section devoted to the drawing and painting of these flowers. Individually they take your breath away, ( these are ink and water colour). But there is a scroll some 4 metres long, painted in 1745, (if my Chinese is correct), which has some 24 flowers painted in beautiful detail. To work in such detail, over a protracted time scale, with no way of correcting a mistake is just phenomenal.

is the exhibition in Luoyang museum similar to Shaanxi Museum in Xian?
Worth to visit both museums or just one of it would do?
Appreciate some advice.

Worth visiting both as they have different collections. Also the Luoyang museum is free you just bring your passport and show it to them at the ticket office and you get free tickets.
