Due to the limited time and just walking along the share and seeing lots of seagulls. It is just the season to see the seagulls, however, the day we visited was very hot.

It is a very huge lake which even looks like the sea.
I wish to stay longer next time and even stay overnight to enjoy the view and easy life there.

magnificent view of the lake from the cable car and all the way down from the western hill, including the dragon gate.

See Sleeping Beauty mountain and locals fishing from their sailboats

Rent an ebike from ebike sales shop and ride along the southern shore of Lake Dian Chi. There are some access roads (usually dirt) where you can approach the lake. There is also a Wetlands park where you can walk alongside the lake a bit and get a nice view of the lake. The park is free but you have to pay for ebike or car parking.
You can see locals fishing in their sailboats. Would love to find a local to take me out one day - will have to investigate that.

Park by the lake

Lovely park by the lake with lots of ducks. To top it off, one can cycle in the park which allows us to see much of the park.

Completed the visit with a nice lunch at a cantonese restaurant which was a relieve to us after all the hot & spicy local cuisine. Cannot remember the name of the restaurant but its beside a bike shop called Specialize

A place to mingle with locals

We were there on a Sunday morning. A very pleasant stroll and you can watch the local folks dancing and exercising. Between October and April you can watch the seagulls migration. Many vendors selling bird food and you can feed them.

Good for an evening or morning walk

If you want to take photos of the mountain as a background, please go there during the morning. The walk along the lake is pleasant.

Located in the southwest part of Kunming city, Dianchi or Dian lake is known as “a pearl on the plateau”. More than 20 rivers nurture the lake and it is surrounded by mountains on all 4 sides. All these contribute to the picturesque landscape & will make you intoxicated to linger around. If you want to appreciate the whole view of the lake, choose to take a cable car to get to the top of the Western hills. The bird’s eye view of the lake is extremely unique & beautiful. Don’t forget to take a stroll around Kunming Green Lake Park to admire at the site of thousands of black head seagulls!! Enjoy your time at this lake.

Great place to feed the birds

I have visited Dian chi several times. It is a great place to see huge amounts of seagulls eating bread directly from your hand. The water is very nice and you see families having a picnic with their pets, Families with Children walking along a long boardwalk. It is kept neat and clean. Street vendors are nearby selling food and bread for the birds. It is a nice place to visit.

    Dian Chi Lake (aka Dian Lake) is the largest natural freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. The lake is very close to Kunming and we hired a taxi from our hotel and paid CNY 150. The lake is surrounded by four hills. The place we visited is known as Haigeng Park on the shore of the lake. There is a walk way to go deep inside the lake with glass bottom to get a good view of the surrounding beautiful landscape. You have to pay CNY 20 pp. The water of the lake is topaz green. There is facility for a cable car ride to get a aerial view of the lake that costs CNY 30 pp. The area has nicely cured park with restaursnts. You can go for a boatride inside tgs kajs as well.

fun resort lake area

Took a taxi out to the lake for about 30RMB from the City Center. Really pretty lake and the seagulls were fun to see. Lovely big boardwalk to stroll along. We were there for the Spring Festival so there were lots of food booths for good snacking. We didn't get to the cultural village. We found it really hard to get a taxi back to the city center took about 30 minutes to find someone who would drive us back so it migh be good to plan this accordingly.
