While walking back from my visit to the Tottori castle ruins, I passed an interesting building which however was fully out of line with the rest of the buildings in Tottori.
It definitely did not look to be built in a Japanese style but rather in an Art Nouveau type of style. As I later understood it, it was the former Tottori library which now houses a toy museum. On the back some newer buildings seemed to be attached.

Unfortunately the museum was already closed so I have to postpone a visit to a possible next trip to Tottori. Very interesting building though.

You can learn a surprising amount about another culture (and your own) through toys. Here you can see countless toys from various eras of Japan, and play with a few of them (the kendama is quite challenging!). Seeing the old Power Rangers toys brought back old memories for me. The entry fee is very cheap (250 yen for tourists if you show your passport!)

Great collection of toys from many era and places up to the present. I especially liked the headphones where you can select from dozens of traditonal Japanese kids folk songs. Half price if you show your passport.

There are some nice retro toys from different era to try. Pretty interactive museum. You can spend about an hour in this museum. There are shops selling oldies candies on the 1st floor.

All the toys that you have ever played is probably in this place. Anything from the paper dolls, niku man, gegege, the original nintendo family block, yoyo etct

This place will hit all your childhood memory spots all in one go. They also have workshop for making toys. A replica of the old school classroom. CD/TV from the 80s anime. Remember the daddy long legs, sailormoon, saint seiya? Even the old school classroom music books are on display.

Foreigners get discounted price (bring your passport) - only 250yen for the entrance.

This place is SOOOO good.
