I visited the NY Kite Center for the first time this month. I'm a beginner, and when I first called to just ask questions, I spoke with Marietta and she was so friendly and informative!
The bay where lessons are taught is awesome. It's shallow water so you have a safety net if you need it, and I felt really comfortable -- which is important for a beginner. I signed up for "board time" and got a lot more than I was expecting. Both times I was out on the water, the instructors (I've been out on the water with Mitchell and Steve) were right there to give me helpful tips. If you're a beginner, I would definitely check out NY Kite Center. It's only 50 minutes by train from Penn Station.
If you're thinking about buying equipment, Johnny has great prices. I compared them to my favorite shop in Hood River, OR, and Johnny's prices were right on par.
