We went to Termessos with our own car on August 1, 2022. You definitely need a car to go there, it is about 32 km from Antalya. The entrance fee for one person was 20 lira. It is 9 km from the entrance to the beginning of the Thermosos trail. Then from there the walk starts up and among and between the rocks. We were there for about 4 hours because we sat in many places and thought about the old days and their art and of course we enjoyed the views of the mountains and the forest. If you love nature and ancient monuments, I definitely recommend going there, wear good shoes, take enough water with you, you can also take a simple sandwich for lunch. I didn't see any store to buy water and food, and finally, if you have knee and foot problems this place is not suitable for you.

Wow. Beautiful once you get to the top. You will appreciate the view after a very steep hike up the mountain to see it. Hiking gear and water a must! Stop and take in the mountain views. It is so beautiful. This was the best city of ruins. The guy at the parking entrance is knowledgeable and helpful. He will draw out a map for you too. He showed us all the important stuff at the bottom of the hike. My second fave is the City of Phasalies.

Termessos was the highlight of my Antalya stay and it didn't disappoint me.

The hike was quite intense. I like to climb all over the place and this one was no exception. In many sections, it was difficult to visualize how they were in the past because they were very destroyed, but the fact of being in contact with such old buildings made it worth it.

Details:

The ticket price is 20TL at this moment.

It opens at 10 AM, so don't go early because you'll have to wait.

It is recommended to hire a private driver because the 8 km climb from the ticket booth to the parking lot is crazy to do on foot and dangerous to hitchhike (there are many curves with poor visibility). We didn't see buses around to do it the "adventurous" way taking buses from Otogar.

Wear good shoes, water and food because there is nothing around to buy. In the parking area there are wild boars that get very close to people. Don't be afraid of them. Despite being wild, they are cared for and fed by people from the surrounding area.

There is an area of sarcophagi and tombs that is outside the main maps. It is in the parking area just behind where there are trees and a bench to sit on.

Start the walk along the path on the left. The one on the right (where you can see a door or arch that is elevated and has some cacti) is the exit. Doing the stretch in reverse will tire you a lot because it has a fairly steep ramp.

We were about 3h 30' because I stop a lot to take pictures and I like to crawl everywhere. I think that with less than 3h it would be enough to see the most interesting.

Although you have areas of great shade and breeze, the heat is very high. In the amphitheater area (the highlight of the place) there is no shade. You can go down and go all the way around it, but you'll have to figure out how to carefully climb the unstable rocks. In different sections, there are benches to sit on.

this is a picturesque city built in the mountains and left to nature as a park. Requires hiking and negotiating rocks, fun if you like hiking/climbing and beautiful setting

Superb combination of nature and history. If you like overgrown ruins, this is perfect. I went by taxi, but it is possible to get there by bus and a 9km hike up the road. You will need good footwear for the ruins, and bring your own food and water. The ruins are literally tumbling down the mountain, so there is plenty of scrambling around to see the best bits. At the top of the site you can walk about another 30 minutes to a fire tower on a peak, for panoramic views. If you like nature, there are lots of birds and wildflowers. Bring a site map if you don’t want to miss anything. There’s not a lot of signage.

We considered this as the best out of the 3 runs area to visit in Antalya. It provides a nice hike up the hill. Ruins are not in the best conditions compared to the other 2 but we truly enjoy the hike and out takes about 2h to cover the area. Also the cheapest of the 3 though it will require a car. Definitely highly recommended

Visiting Termessos means enjoying the national park and the ancient city as well as doing some hour trekking. Actually 1 day will not be enough to explore the ancient city as it is very vast area.

We used the "city map" in the entrance as our trekking / walking guide when exploring the ancient city, starting from the outer city wall until the necropolis passing several interesting points (hammam / "school complex", theatre, agora, ruins colonnaded street, markets, and not to forget Alcetas tomb and its sad story and "honorable" ending). The ancient city was covered by forest with big trees, so - we thought - it was impossible to do restoration project and better to keep it ruined as it is now.

Why Alexander The Great failed to conquer? Perhaps the location is mountainous and high. But most of the ancient cities are located in high altitude, simply for security.

We drove there today. We thought it opened at 8am, but turns out it doesn't open until 10pm. I'm not sure if this is because COVID. We sat around waiting for a while until the guards came and unlocked the park. The hike is very very rocky so bring durable shoes. I almost slipped a few times. The view is amazing!

The Thermessos archeological site (together with the surrounding natural park) are closed until May 17, 2021. Don't go there (before 17 May), because you are going in vain. The whole park is closed with a high fence and you have no alternative to "get along" with the guards.
