What can I say about chef Beny. What a star. Aside from ensuring I didn’t leave any of my fingers in the tuna salad with his expert tuition on knife handling, the experience of going to the markets to select the fish and fresh produce we were going to eat that day was a great experience. The finished result, thanks to chef beny, was really excellent, super fresh gourmet lunch. Thx chef Beny. We had a great time. Steve and Ange

We have just enjoyed a wonderful morning doing this cooking class. We knew it was going to be a great day from the moment Chef Beny picked us up from our hotel. We headed straight to the markets and got the full experience of the enormous fish and vege markets in Jimbaren. Tip - wear enclosed shoes !!
We had Beny all to ourselves and he was so informative and entertaining. We then toured through the less touristy parts of Jimbaren and experienced a more authentic Bali. And then there was the cooking. Wow !! What an absolute treat that was. With all those lovely fresh ingredients and under the watchful eye of Beny, we somehow whipped up a 4 course gastronomic feast. You get totally immersed in the experience; it is all hands on, no sitting back and watching!
We would highly recommend this cooking class. It was such a pleasure cook in The Balé open kitchen and an an even greater pleasure eating the delicious meal. More importantly, it was so much fun! 6 stars to Beny !!

We agree with the other reviews about the cooking experience with Chef Beny from the Bale and would highly recommend it.
We did a cooking experience with Chef Beny during our recent trip. Complete with a guided tour of the local
markets to purchase fresh fish and a lesson on some of the local
produce then preparing and cooking an 4 authentic Balinese dishes. Chef Beny is warm, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. We can’t wait to try out our new skills and prepare these dishes with our family and friends.

Extremely personalized and fun experience with Chef Beny. Went to the fishing jetty/market in Jimbaran and Chef took efforts to explain every interesting fact there. Also volunteer to take photos for us at unique spots. The cooking class was fun and we got the right amount of involvement and hands on. Delicious four dishes cooked! Overall, great experience because of Chef Beny!!

The most amazing experience ever!
Balinese/Indonesian cooking class.
We were picked up by Beny, the chef of the Bale and taken first to the fish market to choose the freshest fish.
Then we were driven to the Bale hotel/resort, where we prepared to cook in the restaurant's professional kitchen.
Firstly we learned how to cook, red chilli seafood paste as a base for the dishes. (Bumbu Be Pasih).
We then made red curry prawns, (Kare Udang), gado gado, vegetables in a fresh peanut sauce, think satay, but better. The other dishes were banana-wrapped fish, (Pepes Ikan) and fresh tuna salad, (Sam al Be Tongkol).
Chef Beny was the most incredible teacher and explained everything in great detail, leaving us to do the actual cooking.
If you want to learn how to cook authentic Balinese food and leave confident that you can recreate this at home. This is the class for you.

We were guests of The Bale (review on the hotel to follow later). We booked the cooking class with Beny and extremely enjoyed the class! He took plenty of time to take us to the market and give us some local insight. The class was organized and the kitchen was clean. The staff did an excellent job taking photos and serving the food with our own special table. There was SO MUCH food!! I've taken many cooking classes and this was one of my top experiences. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I are in Bali for our honeymoon and I wanted to do a cooking class so that we could bring a piece of Bali home with us. This class absolutely exceeded our expectations. Chef Beny picked us up and took us to the seafood market where we learned so much about the fishermen, how to pick a fresh fish, and more. We mentioned in the car that we've loved the mangoes we've had here and when he took us to the fruit and vegetable stand to show us the ingredients we'd be using in our class, he also cut a fresh mango for us on the spot and we enjoyed it right there. Our car ride was so enjoyable-- he told us so much about the Balinese culture and also took us to a really beautiful home goods shop to look around and use the restrooms. The actual class was incredible!! We got to The Bale and were treated to a nice fresh drink and some pastries before starting the class. He was so specific in what he taught us (like an excellent chef should be!) but also cracked jokes the entire time. We made soooo much food and it was all so delicious. Knowing what goes into Balinese food has made us feel more comfortable eating out in restaurants. We are so excited to take what we've learned back to America. Chef Beny is easily one of our favorite people we've met in Bali. Highly recommend!! We loved this experience so much.

Chef Beny is AMAZING! We started with a tour of the fish markets, then saw the fresh produce we will be using to cook our meals. Beny was super thorough and funny. He showed us the culture and heritage behind Bali through the eyes of food, and taught us the meaning behind these dishes. He went above and beyond, and it’s been my favourite experience we have done on this trip.

Congratulations to Chef Benny and his wonderful team for providing such a wonderful Balinese experience. From the welcome when Brent picked us up. to experience at fish market, the vegetable and herb market, welcome at The Bale, education and guidance in food preparation and the dining experience. You might be able to find cheaper courses but I sincerely doubt they could present such value for money.

If allergic to seafood make them aware of that at booking.
