Our hotel in Dahab organised a day trip to the Blue Hole for us without any problems . The journey from Dahab was about 20mins.
The place itself had a few restaurants and areas where you could chill and watch the sea , the restaurant where we left out things whilst in the water was very welcoming and friendly.
One of my friends was diving and myself and another friend was snorkelling .
It was busy but my snorkelling experience was absolutely amazing ! Loved every second of it , the reef was beautiful and unspoilt. Snorkelling across the blue hole was an unforgettable experience .
I didn’t need to wear flippers or a life jacket and don’t once feel unsafe with currents etc , my friend wore a life jacket as she isn’t a particularly strong swimmer .
The memorials to the deceased divers were a sad reminder of how dangerous diving here is , my friend who dived explained that he could see why divers go out of their safe depth as he at 39 feet was tempted to keep trying to get nearer the arch .
All in all I had a 5/5 experience , yes the place had a bit of litter it’s sad to see , but the litter problem seems to be everywhere I saw in Egypt. I didn’t see any litter in the sea at Blue Hole which was good .
I watched the freedivers whilst snorkelling too and amazed how graceful they are.

Only Technical Dicers and free divers can descend into the Blue Hole (110m deep). It’s too deep for recreational divers. Rec divers have a short walk to the Bells for an narrow open fronted vertical canyon that you exit at 27-28m. Then it’s a gradual ascent along a coral wall to the “saddle” of the Blue Hole (a dip in the coral at its outer rim). We skirted around the outside of the Blue Hole at 7-9m and saw all the free divers in the middle - fascinating as it never seen free divers practicing before. Excellent scuba dive. Shame about all the rubbish on the shore line. So many plastic bottles and other rubbish. Such an shame the Egyptians don’t look after the ocean as it’s such a tourist attraction and supposedly in a nature reserve.

Incredible view. The road to the blue hole is a total mess but the view makes up for the bad experience. The security around is well managed and the safety is also taken care. You can rent life jackets from the sitting area managed by restaurants. You have to negotiate first.
Make it early in the morning - opens @ 9am - to avoid the rush in the noon and afternoon. You will enjoy in less rush

Info which may be useful:
Paid 150 Egyptian pounds for taxi to get there. Same price returning.
US$10 (which at the time was 310 EGY) per person entry + 310 EGY per vehicle extra tax to the military/police. All drivers know about this extra fee and will take you to pay this in Dahab prior to setting off for the Blue Hole.
Prices in therestaurants are higher than in Dahab but the El Fanar restaurant at the very far end of the line of cafes at the site itself was a rip off and food not very good (with the exception of the strawberry juice) so I'd avoid the place.
For those who have done absolutely no research at all prior to visiting: quite obviously, there's nothing to see in the deep blue of the Blue Hole itself. You need to walk north along the coast on the path next to the aforementioned El Fanar cafe for about two minutes till you reach the Bells which is a short narrow canyon in the coral shelf. There's some sort of manmade shelter being built there and you'll also see a small wharf a bit further up which is where the boats to/from Ras Abu Galum dock (yes, I know you'll see a sign welcoming you to the 'Ras Abu Galum' nature reserve when you pay to enter the Blue Hole area but the huts and reef of the place people call Abu Galum are actually a 20min boat ride further north by boat).
In any case, enter the water at the Bells and float along with the current (flows from North to south) back towards the Blue Hole with the coral shelf to your right. It's an impressive site. Eventually you'll see the coral wall get lower and lower which means you've reached what is known as the Saddle. It's the far edge of the Blue Hole itself. At this pooint you can head back to shore either directly across the deepest part of the Hole or along it's inner edge where the coral is mostly dead. There are a couple ofp laces opposite the cafes where you can safely exit or enter the water.
The path from the Blue Hole to the Bells is short but rocky. If you have fins (but don't have diving booties) and don't want to walk across the rocks barefeet you can either pay one of the Bedouin kids hawking their wares at the site to take your sandals back to where you were sitting (20-30 EGY pounds seemed to be the going rate for this service) or you should take a diving bag into which you can put your sandals when snorkeling back.
Hopefully, you'll be there without a tonne of other people. If you're lucky you might see something exceptional such as a ray or large barracuda. I saw a largish shark swim below me 20 years ago. Each time you go in you stand a chance of seeing something different.
Just after sunrise and just before sunset brings out hunters that stay hidden for most of the day so you'll see different reeflife at those hours. On the other hand the visibility tends to not be as good at those hours, especially before sunset. Midday sun will bring out the vibrant colours of the corals.

We went at 7am, it was empty so was so nice and chill, nice and cheap fresh juice and breakfast, an amazing snorkeling at the blue hole, cost us 250egp for the taxi, and 10usd entrance per person.
If you're in dahab, go visit!

What dive qualification is needed to dive the blue hole? Also, any idea on costs and recommendations for a good diving centre I can use?

You should be Advanced and have some dives under your belt, in the resent past.
I used Neptune Divers out of Dahab. They were relatively good and the equipment was basically well maintained - even though it was a bit older/used.
If it has been a while. I suggest a refresher course first and a few pleasure dives.
It is a more technical dive and you should feel confident and comfortable.
The Blue Hole section with the free divers is magical.
Make sure to get an early start. Ask the start times from the different dive shops. It started to get busy as we left - this was a very positive part of Poseidon, when I did my dives there - we were the first ones out and it was just me and the dive master.
Have a great time.

We are scuba divers going to Dahab for 4-days of diving. I am not good at climbing over rock formations with 30-pounds of gear to enter a dive site! How easy is the shore entry to the Black Hole? Can anyone recommend ‘easy shore entry’ dive sites with good reefs close to shore? Thank you!!!

Hi There,
How are you?
There is one small entry point to get in to the blue hole only, it is a little bit rocky but there was plenty of scuba diving going on there I am a freediver so it was easy for me etc. But if you worried just try Freediving it’s really fun.
Ras mohammed in Sharm is the best place to go it will blow your mind if you want to see loads of coral and mind blowing fish!!

Can I snorkel with my 5 year old boy?
Serban R
Timisoara, Rumania119 kontribusi
Yes, you can snorkel with your child... taking the usual measures of precaution, of course (like appropriate equipment, watching permanently...). It takes special free-diving abilities and training to go deeper than 3-4 meters, without weights.
More than this, there are areas of shallow water around the actual hole, with beautiful reef (corals and fish).
Hello. Im planning to go to dahab in jan.
I heard that water temperature is just 20 degree in winter.
I feel really chilly . Its possible to snorkeling around blue hole in jan ?
Its easy to rent wetsuit (it makes body warm?) and swim there ?

Hello. So the question I have is this: The whole Sinai peninsula, from what I have read, is currently said as being to dangerous to travel to. Was your trip here recent? If so how did you go about traveling in this area?
Serban R
Timisoara, Rumania119 kontribusi
Yes, they say it is dangerous and... there were some incidents, (near the border with Israel) indeed, but as far as I know, none of them at the sea side. In all the touristic areas there are a lot of police and military posts on the road... I've never felt I'm in danger in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab or Cairo. I've arrived by flight and also travel by bus, taxi, quad and private companies' cars. However... maybe I was lucky!

What is the pricing for Snorkelling and Scuba diving for one person?
AuntieVal_12
Swindon, UK32 kontribusi
There is no charge for snorkelling if you have snorkel and mask, no fee to swi in the blue hole. For scuba diving in blue hoe you need a PADI certificate and an experienced dive guide and there are dive centres in Dahab that can hep you it wil be about 250 - 350LE depending on how long you want to dive.

Bonjour,
Je me souviens qu'à l'époque c'était faisable
