Bridge with History
Mar 2021
Close to this Latin Bridge on June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia were in an open top car as part of a motorcade. Here is where Bosnian Serb Cabrinovic threw a bomb toward the Archduke's car, but it bounced off the car and blew up the car behind him. The car sped off. But that was not the only assassin hanging around the Latin Bridge. Ferdinand went down the street for a rest. When they were leaving, no one told the driver to take a different route and thus gave the assassins another chance. When the Archduke and his wife came around a second time, Bosnian Serb Gavrilo Princip shot and killed both the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife. On July 28th Emperor Fraz Joseph officially signed a document declaring war on Serbia. This was the launching pad for the start of World War 1. The war that killed 20 million people, and ended the Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. Across the street from here is the Sarajevo Museum where you can learn more about this incident.

Historic Significance
Mar 2020
Spanning the River Miljacka, stands this stone bridge built by the Ottomans, made infamous, due to in proximity of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, which led to WWI. The bridge is definitely worth a visit for its historic relevance alone.

Wonderful Bridge, next to history
Mar 2020 • Bisnis
The Latin Bridge is one of many bridges across the river, but it is one of the more beautiful ones to see. The view up and down the river and up to the mountains is very pretty. At the end of the bridge is where Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in June 1914. To see the place were such a pivoted part of history occurred is quite impactful.

Pretty Bridge
Des 2019
This is such a pretty bridge that will always be associated with the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand, which was the spark that started World War I. There is a plaque on the building on the old town side about the assassination.

A bridge of its own

Definitely worth walking along the river and meeting up with the different bridges along the way. The latin bridge is just one of the interesting bridges along the way.

Worth seeing

We loved strolling around this city & came to view this bridge steeped in history.. it is a pity that it had so many people begging & trying to sell things (I suppose everyone needs to make a buck) & no memorial plaque.. just a basic sign listing over attractions ..

A slice of history
Mei 2019
The bridge is not only beautiful but is also a slice of history, for it is here that the Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, which ultimately led to the start of WW1 which changed not only European history, but reshaped the entire continent. There is much to see within the vicinity - the City Hall is literally across the road, as are a myriad of other historial buidings, some of which you can enter, some of which you can't. The whole area is awash with history with something different at every turn - and of course the bridge itself is beautiful in all weathers.

Why not
Okt 2019
Not much to say about this little bridge, it's just ok and the most famous over the Miljacka River. I guess it worth a picture.

A lovely bridge to see which is even more impressive in its connection to the assassination that led to the First World War.

From Sarajevo City Centre Mall
Des 2019 • Pasangan
We decided to go to the Latin Bridge after spending about an hour at the Sarajevo City Centre Mall. Feeling like we should make the trip more worthwhile, we made the decision to walk along the Miljacka river from the mall. The 1.8km walk along the river did not disappoint as we got to see much of the city centre. Also, you could still see almost dilapidated bullet-ridden buildings amidst the modern ones just after the Mall. During the walk, we managed to see the Greek and Serbian embassy as well as a mosque and a synagogue. The walk was relaxing and worth the effort. The bridge itself is a little bit underwhelming despite the fact that it was around here that the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife were assassinated, ultimately causing WW1. So if you intend to come here, you could head down to the Mall first and then take a slow walk along the river to head back to the main city centre. Enjoy!
