I resided in Chua Chu Kang but visited this mall on a number of occasions. For me, the main attraction in this mall is not the restaurant, not the food court, not the boutique, not the supermarket but the National Library. The library is unique with a modern design and layout. Brightly lit and spacious, the adult borrowing section is managed solely by volunteers while the staff handled the children section which is located at the other side of the floor. The mall is 4-storey high including the one basement. One unique food feature of this mall is that there are an abundant number of eateries with local flavor. I went around the mall counting and compiled this list but may not be comprehensive: (a) Mr Beans (b) Ah Mah homemade cake (c) Bee Cheng Hiang barbecued pork (d) Eng's wanton noodle (e) Koo Kee Yong Tau Foo (f) Old Chang Kee (g) Old Street Bak Kut Teh (h) Punggol Nasi Padang (i) Shan Cheng Penang Food (j) Old Pontain Cafe This list exclude the many local stall selling local food at The Kopitiam Food Court at the first floor. The fast food restaurants here also lined up side by side with one another neatly at the first floor ranging from Subway, KFC, Mcdonald, Nene Chicken, Burger King and Pizza Hut. Another unique feature about this mall is that the competitor are also located near to each other. For example, few shops away from Guardian Pharmacy, you can also find Unity, Watson, Nature's Farm and GNC. Eu Yang San TCM Clinic few shops away from Hock Hua Tonic. Four Leaves Bakery, Bengawan Solo and Prima Deli at one end while Swee Heng Confectionery and Hong Kong Sheng Kee Pao at the other corner. There are also about Japanese restaurants also come with a variety from Sukiya to Sushi Deli, Ichiban Sushi, Ajisen Ramen and Volcano Ramen. Among the eateries, I found Wok Hey very unique as they fried right in front of you. The drink stalls are also plenty with many options and choices and all of them are located nearly side by side to each other. You have Li Ho Tea, Star buck, Mr Bean, Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Tea, Bober Tea and Boost Juice Bars. In terms of my own food experience here, I had my dinner once at Swensen cafe but the cafe is quite small unlike their spacious outlet at IMM. Food is also average. I did not see many Korean restaurants here may be at Kopitiam there is one stall selling Korean food. Hillion Mall has a Seoul Street and there are few Korean restaurants there. Sukiya looks special. I tried Sukiya while in Kyoto and Osaka. Should also try this at Bukit Panjang Plaza. I will come again next visit will try some of the food here. Such arrangement increases competition and benefit consumers. I thought Harvey Norman is the only one electrical and electronics retail outlet but now at Hillion Mall nearby, there is Best Denki competing with Harvey Norman. I was quite surprised some of the shops like Jean Yip was closed when I came on Sunday at 8 pm. And this mall and Hillion Mall both do not have a cinema theater unlike Lot One Shoppers' Mall in Choa Chu Kang.
