I would have been thrilled to visit this awesome looking museum but it appears that it has closed his gates on February 2018 and for a length of... one year!
It will re-open its gates next year though (info got from the door keeper guard).
Nothing is showed on the official museum website and the reasons for the closing are not cleared as well.
Officially on their website they are still opening Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm.
So don't waste your time to go all the way to there like I did! It will avoid you 45 mins of transportation from the center city of Beijing.

We planned on several hours here and ended up spending the day...so much to see. Easy to get to by taking the #15 subway line to Wangjing and then walking one block to catch the #851 bus, then walk a couple of more blocks to the museum, which is easy to spot from the bus stop.

I love this museum. Its the biggest in the world and it also combines with cineplex which makes it easier for visitors to visit the exhibition and get entertainment. The entry is free to museum. It goes in a rhythm starting from history of china film since formation of PRC then the type of genres they attempt, then to genre experiments and travel towards hong kong and taiwan film industries. It also has separate exhibits for dubbing of foreign films and animation for kids. Classes for kids on how films are done is organised as well.
The negative is the location as it tremoundasly hard to find cab as the location seem odd and deserted and foreigners will really find it hard as the country is purely based on Chinese and most cab drivers and public does not understand any forms of English words (unless we act it out). Second the full exhibit is in chines fonts. English description in each exhibit will benefit foreign visitors other than just using English words for summarising the history on each section. People like to know more from each exhibit showcased.
If you visit Beijing, this place is a must visit.

Probably a big museum filled up with small samples of Chinese movies (and an excess of budget from the local government), but nothing else. Difficult to reach (out of the 5th ring, and this area is still on development), Taxis will usually get lost, and there is no bus stop around here. Some 黑车 (illegal drivers) will be waiting for you, so if you want to take the risk, bargain first!

It was a nicely constructed museum, very interesting, but there was very little English. We went with local friends who could answer questions we had about certain exhibits. The 4th floor was the most interesting to my kids and myself. It was more interactive, and had neat waxed statues. Although it looked like the exhibits have never been cleaned or maintained as they had dust all over them, parts broken, letters missing on signs etc. It may not be as interesting to the foreign visitors unless you are very interested in Chinese film.

This is a contemporary complex with a number of cinemas as well as the museum which is housed over four floors. It has about 20 different rooms which take you through a cinematic journey, historically and by genre, including replica sets, waxworks of famous stars, and technical apparatus. The building is modern and accessible and the central atrium has an ever-changing coloured light feature with a wide spiralling ramp going all the way to the upper floors. There are some interactive displays, mini-theatres with multiple projections, and for a price you can have yourself filmed against a green-screen with action sequences, e.g. driving, and get the DVD as a souvenir. I thought it was a really interesting museum that seems to have been influenced a lot by contemporary western museums. Clearly very informative and there were some school groups from different parts of the country visiting when we went. However, apart from title-plates, there is at present virtually no English translation on any of the exhibits. For the casual visitor I don't think this is so bad but for anyone with a more developed interest in film this might be quite frustrating.
Photography is not permitted inside the main exhibits and they seem quite strict about that. I think this another of those newer places that has missed the commercial opportunity that a museum shop might provide - at least I didn't see one, other than a small stall near the ridiculously overpriced popcorn concession, but nothing of special interest related specifically to the museum itself. The museum is off the beaten track but quite close to the Railway Museum, with which we combined visits by private car. Getting there by taxi is probably not so bad but it is quite a walk to the main road to get the bus, presently 418 or 688 from Dongzhimen alighting at NanGaoXiangZhengFu. There were unlicensed hire-cars hanging around but not so many regular taxis in the vicinity of the museum. Also, be aware of anyone trying to sell tickets outside because entry is free.
