Money-making ploy
Agt 2013
I was really looking forward to this part of my holiday, but it was a huge disappointment in the end. The idea is a really good one, but I agree with the other comments that this place needs to be managed better. The presenters at each hut seemed exhausted/uninterested (only 2 out of the 9 I can say were pretty good) Our guide was awful - he seemed to be bored form the start. After going through 8 of the stations, we were led to the curio shop where we were pressured to buy goods. (I would have bought them anyway as I was looking for gifts to take home, and prices were not too bad... but the harassment was definitely unwelcome.) We then went to see the Maasai dancers. After our dance, one of them nudged me as I hugged him to say thanks and quietly offered me a good price on a neck piece. I walked away. Our guide then put a basket in front of us, stating that it is customary to offer a gift of thanks after the Maasai have danced. He even mentioned the amount of 1000ksh or more would be appropriate - "whatever suits your pocket"! My travel companion gave the 1000ksh. I gave nothing. Thereafter, we were badgered into buying beads from the Maasai. Our guide stated, "Please support them, we are all Africans." (my friend and I are black South Africans) We said no, but they pleaded, begged and laid the guilt trip on thickly until my friend bought 2 bracelets. All this after paying something like I felt ashamed to be African, and disgusted by the whole thing. Don't go. Lie on a lounger, sip a cocktail and catch a tan.

This is a great attraction showcasing some of the many tribes that live in Kenya. We found it very interesting and enjoyed getting involved in the activities such as shooting a bow and arrow, pounding maze and getting up to dance with the traditional dancers. The guide was very friendly and informative which made the experience so interesting and enjoyable

the place is good to be though the management should be improved like seriously. Tou guides need to be recognized not amatter of them depending on tips to earn aliving.the dancers are good, people representing every village are so good and friendly...one word that place is going down...something should be done to improve it..Bombolulu has overtaken you seriously

We had a great time

We were a little suspect of visiting, it was really hot out, the pool at the hotel was inviting, would the place be to 'touristy'? But we hopped in a tuk-tuk anyway and gave it a shot. Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised. Our guide around the villages was super nice and very knowledgeable. The kids loved the music, dancing, shooting bow and arrows, hand-made tools, etc. My wife and I appreciated the insight into the different cultures. This is the kind of small scale tourism we like to support and we had a great hour or two visiting. Highly recommended.

If you are interested in the tribal traditions, visit Ngomongo villages. It's a couple of hours learning about how some of the tribes live in the more remote areas and your chance to show of some of your skills for their hunting, cooking and dancing traditions. Something for all the family to enjoy.

A quarry reclaimed to make a paradise

The place is very quiet, trees of different species have been planted, tour guides are great. You will learn how different Kenyan communities lived. You will enjoy traditional entertainment with a dance.
