So this Nubian village wasn't actually in its original location. It was just established because of the Aswan dams' construction. Their original homes have since gone underwater. But glad that they have rebuilt their lives strongly and is now an attraction for travelers.
As for our time in the Nubian village, we boarded a felucca to the village and was taught the Nubian language as well as Arabic. We went along the streets seeing villagers selling their products like spices and incense.
We had a dinner afterwards and the food was absolutely great! We totally loved it!

My wife and I visited the Nubian Village as part of our cruise on the Nile River this past December during our stop in Aswan. My wife bought some souvenirs mainly because the Nubians were much more pleasant to deal with than the “vultures” at the temple sites on other stops of our cruise.

Our guide recommended this as an add on to our boat trip to the botanical gardens for an extra $50/person.
My recommendation: Don’t bother
Nice enough boat trip but the village is full of stalls selling the same stuff you’ve seen everywhere else. Taken into a Aswan house to see small Nile crocodiles in cramped spaces. Not nice.

Our tour guide arranged a visit to the Nubian village as an extra add on to visiting the botanical garden. The boat trip through the river islands was very pleasant with fabulous views. The Nubian village is what you’d expect - basically an opportunity to sell you stuff. If you like Egyptian markets and haggling you will enjoy it. The traders are not too pushy compared to other sites. Did not enjoy seeing the crocodiles housed in a tiny pen in one of the traditional houses and given to tourists to hold. Would encourage visitors not to patronise this cruel practice.

Our group visited this traditional Nubian village while in Aswan. We travelled there on a diesel motor boat. Pleasant journey down the Nile but quite a lot of diesel fumes. The pace of life in the Nubian village was slow and the vendors were not as pushy as in other areas. We visited a family house and were greeted warmly. We were given refreshments… did not like to see the three crocodiles who were kept in a central area of the house. These people always keep them as a pet for 12 years and then return them to the waters of the Aswan dam as they get too big…
We also got the opportunity to visit the local kindergarten school and meet one of the teachers Mr Omar. This was a particular joy for me as a teacher. Lovely pleasant boat ride back…

For my home base during my 3-day visit of Aswan, I stayed at this village. The views are beautiful such as colorful houses and Nile River, neighborhoods are quiet and calm, no honking of horns and other noises that one experienced in the city center. Watching the boats passing by along the Nile River made me feel relax.
Locals here are kind and friendly. There are several hostels/Guest Houses with restaurants. Shops are welcoming and do not hazzle you as you walk by.

I was staying at a small and very friendly hotel with a great terrace and a very good chef. Walking around the village is a bit of a hassle though. The crocodiles are kept in some houses in cages: I saw this last time and avoided it this time. I managed to do some very nice shopping with tea and chat and bargaining with a super guy called Aladdin, but a lot of the shopkeepers don't give you time or space to look; you literally step out of the hotel and have an alabaster sphinx shoved up your nose! Aladdin was a real treat to sit and haggle nicely with, so he got my business. That, the hotel and the wonderful coloured houses were the highlights. The absolute lowlight was when a teenage guy tried to charge me 50 Egyptian pounds for an 8.50 bottle of water! Ups and downs; don't allow greedy younger people to ruin this village!

The motorboat ride was terrible with the diesel fumes. About time they used electric outboards.
The Nubian people were lovely. However, having a small crocodile with its jaw taped for photos is not my cup of tea, nor is the sight of a fully grown crocodile in a tiny exclosure with not enough water to cover it, let alone turn around. Best left alone even though the Nubian people allegedly worship crocodiles, I would not recommend the trip

One of our tour guides in Luxor suggested we visit the village, which was not in our original plans. It turned out to be a highlight of our time in Egypt. We went early in the am form our ship in Aswan. It was cooler and quiet and a beautiful boat ride for our group of 7. In the village we went to a family home, had tea. Some had henna, some took a camel ride. The vendors there are not aggressive and actually friendly. My friends felt they could have gotten better prices by buying souveniers here instead of other spots. We had a tuk-tuk to take us out of the village to our van - which then took us to the airport. A great way to end the river cruise when in Aswan.

We arrived in the Nubian village aboard a small boat. We passed on a small and dusty street full on both sides with shops selling traditional things, they said: all kinds of decorations, spices, shawls, veils, shmehr for men, dried fruits, African masks made of wood, leather goods ... I don't know, many other things. The houses in the village have a typical architecture and are very colorful. We were welcomed into the household of a family from the village. We were served tea and hibiscus juice, a cheese paste mixed with something spicy, there was something else on that tray, but I couldn't identify what. The family had a cage in their yard containing three baby crocodiles. With the youngest we took pictures. Of course, something new and unusual for us as tourists, but too bad for those animals, they should have been free. After all, we tourists encourage their captivity. Carried in so many hands, I don't think it was good for the poor animal. Honestly, I'm so sorry now that I took a picture with poor baby crocodile in my hands.
Looking at the photos posted here, I am sure that not the same village is visited by groups of tourists. As such, I can't say for sure which Nubian village I was in.

You can do the tour by boat or bus. Both are very enjoyable. If you have questions I would recommend Trip Advisor or asking the concierge at your hotel. Enjoy!

Hello Gwenda,
We are very interested in having a meal with a Nubian family. Would appreciate any details about how to make arrangements for this experience. Thank you.

As others fellow Trip advisors suggested you can surely tell your guide or company to book it for you.
But if you really want to experience a real Nubian culture that is by sparing a day and than take west aswan ferry to other side it will cost you 5EGP each and after a short boat ride you will be on other side.
Just climb up a a short distance from where you can visit the fort if you like or follow the straight path which is quite visible which will lead you to the Nubian village where people generally love sparing time, talking to people and even having their local food. That is my way of experiencing the culture.
You may choose the way you like. As for most of guides and companies who arrange the tours I have found out that generally they will take you to a particular family which they have tie ups with and for them you are just another tourist from whom they can extort money.
So to have best experience I would recommend to spare a day and visit the whole village on your own. And you will find out that people are very friendly, helpful and not after your money but after you to learn your culture as well.

Are all Nubian village tours pretty standard? Do they all have the same elements - boat ride, camel ride and visit the same village/house? Or does every tour go on a different itinerary and different place?
Can anyone recommend a tour that had camel ride and felucca ride?

You can ask hotel for a tailor made tour for you. It is as simple as that :) and next to Anakato there is a place where u can go to ride camels and boats are just outside the hotel. Just ask hotel to arrange it for you. There is a lovely lady at hotel reception her name is Chayma and she is very helpful

If it worth the cost of 70.00 for the trip form the cruise ship? I will be traveling alone.

It cost me US$30 for the trip from the cruise ship to the village.(return). You pay for the felucca ride..like a sail boat manned by the Nubian people. Enjoy the boat ride on the Nile with musical entertainment by the Nubians. The Nubian village is something different if you have a tour guide to explain their traditions. Time spent in the village depends on how long u want to venture. We spent 1 hour there and took the sane boat back.
To me its worth the ride.

HI Daktari7 - I noticed your post about a visit to a Nubian home in Aswan for dinner. Is this a formal tour that can be booked please? If so, could you send me the link for prices, schedules and bookings? Many thanks, Megan James

hi, I've been there a couple of times and yes it was a joyful tour, you may join a tour at your hotel or you could tailor it by yourself as you wish, I personally call a very good guide called Milad who arranges an air-conditioned car and designs a good tour for all the area around and also makes the reservation of a nubian meal, all of this with reasonable prices, here is his mobile number if you want to call him : 01222807145
