An impressive looking fountain located in front of the Imperial Gate of Topkapı Palace and built in 1728. Used to provide water for travellers and running water for praying people's ritual washing needs, as well as being a social centre and gathering place during the Ottoman period. Worth a look and camera snap if in the area. During our visit, no water was running.

The fountain is located just outside the Topkapi Palace. Nothing much to see just take a picture. The water fountain isn’t working.

This fountain is one of the most beautiful examples of Turkish rocco style and was constructed in 1729. Beautiful and worth a closer examination as it is on your way into Topkapi Palace.

When I first saw this, I wasn't quite sure what it was. I later found out that it was a fountain. Its outside the Topkapi palace gates and is covered in a lovely rocco style.
Worth a look and a photo in front of it.

This is an 18th century Rococo style structure built by Sultan Ahmed III, which is located just outside the Topkapi Palace gates. Each corner has marble window grilles, which were used for dispensing iced water or sherbet during the Ottoman rule.

Sultan who loved tulips.

The Turkish rococo style fountain is opposite the Imperial gate of Topkapi Palace, and therefore a popular meeting point of the guided tours.
The richly decorated square-shaped building is in the market place in front of Topkapi Palace, and it would be hard not to notice it. That was our first aim on our first day in Istanbul. We learned right away that Ahmet III loved tulips because of the lavishly used tulip motives on the fountain.
It was exciting going around the well waiting for our guide, and then we didn't know how many more times we would see this fountain during our trip. If I wasn't lazy, I could also find a photo taken at the same location in 1988. Meanwhile, more than 30 years have passed, but the well has not changed much. It is still waiting for visitors, like so many other famous meeting points in the world.

Our guide took us to this little known beautiful fountain located in the great Square at the imperial gate of Top Kapi Palace. Built during 1729 in Turkish rococo style with taps at both edges, inscriptions on the outer wall, aesthetically designed tiles with classical and european patterns of tulips and acanthus leaves represent the medieval practice of providing facility to the pilgrims and travellers. This fountain is supposed to have been built at the earlier location of Byzantine fountain that was known as Perayton.

This is a fountain built by Sultan Ahmet III around 1720 so much newer than the Topkapi Palace for which it is a popular (and logical) meeting point. Unlike some other fountains on the hippodrome this one is a complete building and worth a photo stop by itself. Unfortunately the water spigots don't work, possibly intentional.

I honestly didn’t know this was even an attraction, until I took a closer look and noticed the inscription that the Fountain of Ahmet III replaced a Byzantine fountain named Perayton, and was constructed in 1729. The fountain is located behind the Hagia Sophia, and in front of the Topkapi Palace.

The Fountain of Sultan Ahmed III (built 1728) is a small building containing multiple water spigots (currently not working). The architecture synthesizes traditional Ottoman and contemporary western styles. A square kiosk supports five small domes, with mihrab-shaped niches containing foliate and floral reliefs in each of the four façades, each with a drinking fountain. Water flowed from an octagonal pool inside the kiosk. On each corner is a triple-grilled sebil (from which an attendant dispensed cups of water or sherbet, free of charge, from behind a grille). Large calligraphic plates bordered with blue and red tiles contain poetic stanzas of a 14-line poem dedicated to water and to its donor, Seyyid Hüseyin Vehbi bin Ahmed (a chief judge of Halep and Kayseri). It was a social center and gathering place during the Ottoman empire. The fountain is beautifully lit at night. It is open at all times, with no entry fee.
