Visited here with our private guide during our tour of the Kudee Jeen area. I think we were the only tourists here. It was peaceful and clearly an important temple to the locals. This provided a genuine experience of a buddhist temple. Beautiful large Buddha . Stunning

I took a circle line boat ride ( 3 temples stop at Wat Arun, Wat Kalaya and Wat Rakang at 30 Baht ) from Wat Arun pier. In Thailand, we have 2 famous big Buddha image , aka, Sam Por Kong which are revered and worshiped by Chinese immigrants, the older one is located at Wat Panancherng , Ayuthaya and this one at Wat Kalaya.
After completing renovation and improve landscape 3 years ago, I found that the temple was so clean and well ordered. Not so crowded and doesn't have that much incense stick smoke. The main sanctuary contains big buddha image , quite impressive while the side Ubosot ( chapel) and small sanctuary were also well maintained , the painting inside both building are great .

Last but not the least, you should ring the Thailand largest bell ( 193 cm diameter, weight 13 tons) at the bell tower for good luck.

Parking space is great, only 20 Baht fee.

This temple is the one you will reach after crossing the Chao Phraya from Yodpiman shopping center close to the MRT Sanam Chai station. Is one of the temples, shrines and the Santa Cruz church you can visit in the Kudee Jeen Sino-Portuguese Heritage area. Wat Kalayanamit is where is located the statue of Buddha, Luangpho To later renamed Trai Rattanayok by King Rama 4, measures 16 m high by 12 m wide and is entirely covered with gold leaf in position Marn Vichai. Called Sam Po Kong by the Chinese who respect this image very much, the belief says that by worshiping it, you can attract success in business, good friends and security. In the temple enclosure is the largest bronze bell you will see in Thailand, ring three times for luck. Peaceful temple in an attractive quarter of Thonburi.

A short boat ride across the river took us to the amazingly adorned temple. This was a lot less crowded than the other temples that were visited Be sure to ring the bell outside.

This is one of the Royal temples which is strongly revered by Thais of Chinese descent. Easily accessible via a public ferry service (6B )from Pak Klong Talad (flower market ) directly across the Chao Phraya river. A massive renovation program has been substantially completed. The temple houses a gigantic golden Buddha in a seated position. As this is not listed on tourist information brochures, there's no tourist crowd and visitors have a rare opportunity to spend some quiet time in the temple. There's a gigantic bell outside the temple which may be struck for blessings.

Lovely place with nearly no tourists! Good alternative to Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Big sitting Bhudda is there.

Situated next to GudeeJeen (an old Chinese town) area. The land was donated to King Rama 3rd around 1825 (about 200 years ago) by a wealthy Chinese merchant whom later became a good friend to the king, thus, Kalayanamit (the true friend). In the front (between Chaopraya river and the temple) is under landscaping and major renovation. A lot of Chinese style animal, soldier, stone statues and small stupas. The trip to the Viharn (the Prayer Hall) will have to go thru Chinese style gate with large censer (reminded me of the visit to Chinese temples). The Viharn is very big with high ceiling. The principal Buddha image is very big (probably one of the biggest in Thailand). The Bell Tower is on the north side (of the Viharn), housing a large bronze bell and said to be the largest or second largest in Thailand.

Wat Kalayanamit Worahamawiharn is located on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya river. A nobleman called Chao Phraya Nikorn Bodin donated his house to King Rama III to build a temple in 1825. The temples holds the largest sitting Buddha of Thailand called Luang Por Toh, which is crafted in plaster in Marn Vichai’ posture. It is highly revered by Chinese people.

Bangkok was also a feast for the eyes. Did you know it has over 9 million inhabitants? An extremely religious city, we travelled around visiting ancient temples and palaces, and made sure we went to Wat Kalayanamit (Thailand’s largest indoor sitting Buddha at 15 metres/49 feet high). I really enjoyed learning about their culture. Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand and you’ll see plenty of colourful, ornately-designed temples. Even if you aren’t Buddhist, you’re free to enter and receive blessings from the monks. Definitely a must!

Visited this beautiful Wat with Mr. Swai from Explorenique. Located on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya River, it is off the beaten path with mostly locals praying. It was so nice to see a Wat not mobbed with tourists to get an authentic spiritual feel.

The Buddha inside is the largest sitting Buddha in Thailand at a height of 16 meters. It also has the largest bronze bell in Thailand. We reached this Wat by walking over a levy through a local neighborhood and then left via a local ferry to reach the flower market on the opposite side of the river.
