We visited Washington DC, and checked out the Kennedy Memorial Performing Arts Center based on Trip Advisor reviews. Glad we took the advice of many on Trip Advisors to go on tour.
Bernie, our tour guide, was fabulous, knowledgeable, and personable. We learned so much about the arts, lounges, theaters, and gifts from 60 countries in the Performing Arts Center. Lots of wonderful back stories on the place and arts. The terrace has a wonderful view of Potomac River and surrounding communities in DC and Arlington.
When you visit, recommend parking in Kennedy Center lot if you drive. Tour information is near Parking A floor. Very friendly staff.
At the next visit, looking forward to see one of 2,000 performances throughout the year at the Center.

We heard and read the fantastic reviews but our experience did not resemble those of others. The tour hours were listed until 1:00pm. We arrived at 12:40 pm but the tours had closed. 3 different personnel sent us in opposing directions to find the tour desk - which is downstairs. We then opted to take a self guided tour. The “information “ desk staff searched many drawers and shelves for brochures . They eventually found them and gave them to us without explanations. We asked for a map of where to start. The staff could not explain how to start the self guided tour (the floor plan was in the brochure). We found a floor plan a few steps away from their desk and gathered the information for ourselves.. We enjoyed our own tour, but had we known to come 20 minutes earlier to see more on display, we would have given a better review. I recommend calling before you go to ask the time of the last tour (that is not advertised).

A free gem of a sight to explore when in DC! We went on a Monday morn and as we entered, the door guard suggested that we take the elevator to the top floor and go outside on the veranda and walk all around. What a view! Then back inside we got a free tour of the beautiful theaters and the art from many different countries and The Reach area. Roberta, our tour guide was great and so personable and full of interesting facts. An unexpected highlight of our time in DC.

The performance was amazing until they had random women sitting in the seat that were watching if you were recording, couldn't even look at a txt msg or time because they assumed we were recording, wasn't pleased with that what's so ever. It's upsetting we can even take at least a photo for the amount of money we are dropping for this performance but I understand their concerns but it was just upsetting that they had these women pretending they were customers but instead were little spys watching if you were recording or taking photos. I felt uncomfortable that I left the show early. Will never be spending my money for that ever again.

We went to the Kennedy Center on 1st January.
This was a last-minute decision, to see the Temptations musical, Ain't Too Proud. The show was fantastic, as was the venue.
While it's a bit out of the way, it is easily walkable from Georgetown. The venue itself is stunningly photogenic and made out of marble, and the gift shop at the entrance had so many lovely pieces.
The show was also astounding, and the actors were so talented. Our seats were P1, P3, and P5 in the orchestra, and we had a fantastic view.
There are a range of Broadway performances on in any of the 3 theatres throughout the year, and we definitely will be coming back if ever in the area.

The staff were extraordinary. We attended the play "ain't too proud" which was crowded and with the check for vaccination, I expected a long and slow process. I was quite surprised that both the electronic and paper lines moved quickly. Staff were constantly seeking to guide us to our seats. At the end, we met Patrick who volunteered to take a group picture for us and remi ded us to do a review.

I was in DC visiting my Daughter who attends GWU. While there we took in the Nutcracker done by the New York ballet. Don't drive, always take a taxi or Uber because parking is always difficult and it's one less thing to worry about. When there buy tickets in advance and download to your phone, this will make for easy entrance to the center. When there visit the Russian room at intermission, for drinks. I went with my wife and daughter and it was great.

Has anyone sat in the box seats in the Eisenhower Theatre? Was wondering if it was worth the extra money of if the view wasn’t worth it.

I saw Hamilton from a box and I was excited because it was the last seat available. It wasn't worth it; the left side of the stage was obstructed. I felt fancy, though, lol.
I see a lot of guides to watch fireworks from the terrace. Can anyone watch 4th of July fireworks for the terrace, or is it a private party?

For anyone who has sat in the very front row - Row A in the orchestra - how high is the stage? I get tired of sitting back further and seeing heads in front of me rather than the stage. Thanks!!!

I never sit that close the music goes over my head. I try to sit about half way back in the orchestra or in the first tier

Which Kennedy Center parking garage entrance is most convenient as of 9/18? Anyone know? A, or B/C?
jaseaton
Silver Spring, MD2.394 kontribusi
So far as I know, there's only one large parking garage underneath the Center. You can get to any venue using either the A or B entrance; both give access from the garage up to the Center itself, but if you want to avoid a long walk, it helps to use the entrance closest to the stage you're going to. If you enter the garage from the F Street entrance, the theatres are arranged in the following sequence: closest to F street -- Eisenhower Theater; middle -- Opera House; furthest -- Concert Hall. But if you don't mind walking, don't sweat it: you can get to any venue from either entrance. BTW, if you want to save some money, you can also park in the garage under the Watergate across F Street. Instead of turning left into the Kennedy Center garage, just turn right into the Watergate parking lot. If you want to find a map of the Kennedy Center complex and garage, you can find one by searching on Directions and Parking -- John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts.

We were given tickets to The Fourth of July at the Kennedy Center Roof Terrace for the picnic dinner and fireworks. What is the dress code? Are beverages such as wine, beer, & cocktails included?
Thanks in advance!

Too late to help, but I have no clue what they serve, but would guess that drinks will be sold. Due to the heat, I would assume that dress is casual and shorts should be allowed.

Hi Dottie
What sort of music do the play in the free concert?

The concerts change every Monday but they have them listed so you can see who will be there while you are in DC. I suggest going early as it’s first come first serve for seating. The performance is also televised.

We are planning to see the free show at 6 p.m. and would also like to take the tour in the afternoon. What time should we arrive to be able to tour and be done by 5 p.m. ?

Tours average about an hour, but can vary depending on the tour guide and how many questions the group has. Tours start approximately every 10 minutes during scheduled hours. If visiting on a weekend, remember tour hours end at 1 P.M.

Would the opera on a Saturday night be very formal? Also, is it safe to take the Metro after dark? We'll be staying in Maryland.

People wear everything to the Kennedy Center. My preference is the little black dress, but you will see long dresses and slacks as well. Metro is safe (depending on your stop) but as previous commenter wrote, be aware of your surroundings and use the buddy system.
