Interesting exhibition about the stay of J.W. Goethe or the English King Edward VII. in Mariánské Lázně

A large part of the exhibition is about the history of the town, spa treatment, discovery of springs and geology. However, there are also other interesting exhibits to see. Very nice is the exhibition dedicated to the stay of J.W. Goethe or the English King Edward VII. in Mariánské Lázně. Miniature puppets by J.W. Goethe and other people depicting scenes from the poet's life are really cute. In the exhibition "Famous Visitors of Mariánské Lázně", you will be surprised how many famous people visited Mariánské Lázně.

When visiting the museum, you can also watch a 30-minute film about the history of the town (in Czech or German). Admission for an adult is 90,- CZK.

Surprisingly extensive museum

This was VERY interesting particularly if you have an interest in Goethe - they've gone to town on his visit here in the early 19th century and there's a very good display.
However, the museum underlines the fact that this was a German town from its inception in the late 18th-century to 1946, when there was proper Ethnic Cleansing. It's glossed over in the Soviet-era film they show you, and very little can be gleaned of the time when the town was literally 'emptied of its folk'. The rest - displays about the spa and the geology - is very good.

It's not a very large place to visit. There are hot spring fountains but they don't really taste good. Coffee shops and street venders are not opened during winter. Two of the fountains were not available maybe due to the frozen weather. Even the public toilets were locked up. The snowing weather is still made Marianske very pretty.

Worthwhile visit!

Meticulously organized and lovingly put together exhibits in a well maintained historic building. Diverse exhibits cater to various interests, from Goethe's stay in the building to famous guests visiting the spa, from minerals mined in the surrounding area to interesting artifacts typical to the location. Excellent "quality experience"!
