This is an unusual church, because the architect Johann Gottfried Gutensohn designed it according to the model of Byzantine octagonal buildings, so floor plan of the church has the shape of an octagon. There are 33 steps to the church entrance, which represent the age of Jesus Christ. The massive blue ceiling with a number of stars (originally gold), reminiscent of the night sky, is very impressive. The church is located on the hill near by main colonnade and it is worth visiting.

This church is not old in terms of European history as it was only built in the New-Byzantine style between 1844-1848. It's very pretty inside and visible from the Colonnade.

We sang for a service in this church and thus enjoyed the acoustics. This church, built when the town was Marienbad and worshippers were Austro-Hungarian or Bavarian mostly, is surprisingly ornate and spacious, in neo-Baroque style. Fabulous acoustic: organ still complete with German stops!

Worth having a look. The shape is interesting inside, and it's well-decorated, but when we went in, though it was warm outside, it was freezing inside.

We went to mass on Sunday at 10:00 am, traditional Catholic service, very nice, just a side note that all though it was a warm day, the church was cold inside so might be wise to bring a jacket.
