Very, very nice

Breathtaking views, nice fountain show, sophisticated atmosphere. Definitely would recommend having a coffee while soaking in the view.

Not as good as expected
Jun 2021 • Teman
After a long ride with metro and bus (pretty complicated if you don’t speak Greek) we arrived.
The library and the opera must be very impressive.
We liked the architecture of the building.
But in the end the long trip was not worth it. There are so many places to visit in the city. if you don’t have a car and don’t want to visit the opera etc. it’s not worth the ride (in my opinion).

Fantastic modern cultural complex
Okt 2020 • Pasangan
Fantastic modern complex. Short taxi ride from Sygrou Fix metro station, €5 fare.  We had a good walk around enjoying the place. Dancing fountains out front every 15 minutes at weekends. Green roof Definately worth a walk,  fantastic achievement getting a fully mature garden including some sizeable trees into the roof! Very peaceful place with benches to sit for a while.  Pedestrianised bridge takes you over towards the marina to continue your walk. Views of the neighbouring archeological site and Olympic venues. Also home to the National Library, a great modern building.

Stunning modern  opera house complex.

The auditorium itself is everything you would expect from a modern opera house. Acoustics were excellent for the performance we saw of Madama Butterfly.  All seats had a real-time translation facility into Greek or English from the original Italian which was great. We were in the stalls all socially distanced and masks etc. I noticed that in the upper levels the seats are all angled side on to get a front view of the stage, excellent design. Beautiful bright auditorium with comfortable seating.

There is a bistro at the entrance of the theatre serving drinks and snacks. Welcome as the theatre bars were closed currently due to the pandemic.

We spent around 4 hours here at a weekend and really enjoyed the walk around the gardens and taking the lift up to the green roof.  So glad we came back here during the day following the fantastic performance of Madama Butterfly the previous evening. Fabulous place part of modern Athens.

Beautiful building with green roof and park
Okt 2020 • Keluarga
Visit the lighthouse (viewing platform at the top) for wonderful views of the city and the coast, then walk down the green roof /park, which is full of plants from Attica. Lovely place to wander. This is a great investment made to Athens.

What a transformation of a racing track
Mar 2020
Taking the very convenient and free shuttle bus from Syntagma, we enjoyed a great time exploring the fabulous centre.

On arrival we strolled around the lake marvelling at the marvellous modern edifies.

Availing of the elevator to the top floor, it was wonderful to gaze at the all-round panoramas as the sun set. Sipping a coffee we sat close to the edge taking in the full expanse of the city below us.

On the other side we saw the fine Olympic Stadium and Museum Armour Vessel.

As National Libraries go, this one is tremendous. With space for a couple of million volumes it is a stupendous facility for the city folk.

A culmination was a most entertaining performance at the grand Opera House.

Worth visiting during cultural events
Jul 2020
Worth visiting at night but mainly for the walk across to Faliron complex which opposite the center. A lot of construction is happening around the area and this spoils I guess the beauty around all this. Ideal for this on bicycles to tour the area around Faliron complex , sailing school and all the way to the Stadium of Piece and friendship. It will be more interesting I guess with cultural events going on after covid period

Nov 2019
everything is so beautiful and clean, the spacious park, the small lake, the library and of course the excellent view from the top.
my favorite experience was some years ago, there was a concert (i dont know who the artist was) a stage was on the lake and big video wall !!! and you could see the artist from front and back.

Free Guided Tour!!
Mar 2020 • Teman
I didn’t even know about the free tours until I started researching the Greek National Opera. During my last trip to Europe I really enjoyed the tour at the Vienna Opera House and was looking for a similar experience in Athens. Come to find out the cultural complex houses two of my favorites - an opera house and a beautiful library.

I’m so grateful to have stumbled on the information. I’m even more grateful that I got to take advantage of the tour. My group was a total of six; the cap is 25. The website wasn’t clear about the meeting point - “Public PC Lobby”. I popped in the library prior to the tour and double checked with one of the security guards where the meeting point was located. (PC = Personal Computer.) If you head in the direction of the ground floor public “computer lab”, you’ll see an information desk before you get to the computers.

You’ll have to check in at the desk for the free tour. The person behind the desk will then confirm your online reservation and you’ll be handed a badge to wear for the duration of the tour.

The tour consists of the ground floor of the library, as well as the 2nd floor, which had limited access since it was Clean Monday. The tour continues to the Greek National Opera afterwards. Again, we started at the ground floor. After comparing both lobbies, library and opera, we were guided to one of the smaller stages, where it was being prepped to debut a show. We headed to the main stage soon after. Both stages were very intimate and contemporary.

We also got to see two rehearsal studios. One of them actually had a member of the orchestra. He was practicing but didn’t mind our brief interruption. We were also granted access to the 5th floor of the main stage, where we came to appreciate that even the “cheap seats” had great views of the stage!

We wrapped up the tour at The Lighthouse, where our guide continued to educate us on the sustainability practice of the complex.

The 90 minute tour was worth every second. So glad there were only six of us! Otherwise, we would have lost too much time just trying to corral everyone.

Thanks again for such a great tour! I wish everyone was as generous as SFNCC.

The best hidden gem in the city
Jan 2020
Amazing place, such a wonderful tribute to art, culture, sports. It is a true leisure spot for visitors. It is open to everyone, no reservations. The architecture is magnificent, the whole concept is remarkable. We spent the New Year's Eve there, and could not find any flaw. The library is just extraordinary, the parks, the green rooftop, the sledge park. There are permanent and temporary galleries, the National Opera Theater and the National Library are all part of it. The restaurants and the coffee spots are great with very good service. The best surprise in Athens, don't miss it
