This salumeria is a family run business, operating for more than 100 years. They offer the choicest cuts from local artisans and excellent insight into production and serving techniques. We received samples of generous proportions and warm, friendly service. This was one of the few places open in the afternoon and not requiring a prior booking. It’s a short drive from Parma.

We visited Salumeria Gardoni with friends from Parma. Absolutely amazing. Mr Gardoni was absolutely delightful. He spoke very little English and we spoke very little Italian, but we had local translators. More importantly, the language of great food needs little explanation. If you can point and smile, you're set. Mr Gardoni broke open a fresh wheel of Reggiano Parmigiano and the smell was incredible. He broke off several large pieces, wrapped them in fresh prosciutto (which he just sliced) and let us sample. Heavenly. We paired the cheese with a bottle of sparkling Malvasia, which was perfect. We came away with several salumi's, quite a bit of prosciutto, and the largest wedge of Reggiano Parmigiano I've ever seen (which we brought home). Reggiano of this quality is either not available at home or super expensive if you can find it. Gardoni's had amazing products at great prices. Overall, an incredible experience.

Visited Torrechiara to see the Parma hilly countryside and had to stop to taste the local produce. Signore Gardoni did not disappoint!! We had an educational experience on what ham should and should not be, what the process of making prosciutto is and the difference of the 5 products obtained from the leg of the pig. We were surprised to know what should not be eaten and how a good ham should have 'tears' when cut. Mr Gardoni went out of his way to explain and give us a taste of the different hams and cuts. His parmeggiano was also good but he insisted that he can only talk about the ham which is his passion, hobby and art! Truly worth a visit. Plan to spend a full hour learning and tasting - knowing Italian is an asset here.

As others have mentioned, this is a great spot to stop in on the way to the Castello di Torrechiara. We had the best prosciutto and parmagiano reggiano of our lives. So flavorful and fresh; went great with some local crusty bread we found down the street. Signore Gardoni was very accommodating and happy to share his craft. A don't-miss if you are in the area.

We visited Gardoni, as we were reccomended to step by as we visited the castle "Castello di Torrechiara" We met mr Gardoni himself. A real firework full of passion, knowledge, histories and love for his work. We spended more than an hour tasting Parmiggiano, prosciutto, culatello, salame, mortadella and much more. All tasting exellent. Grazie Mimmo for reccomanding, and sig Gardoni for the experience. A domani👍👍👍

Signore Gardoni gave us a very special adventure today. Yes, it was more than just an experience: it was magic. If I just could find the right words to describe the smell and taste of each piece of cheese and prosciutto that we tasted, I don't think they will do any justice. What a story! What a knowledge! Ahhh... The great taste of every handmade piece of ham, salami and pancetta! I recommend a visit here deeply. Thank you so much Maurizio Gardoni 😃

Before we visited the beautifully-preserved Castello di Torrechiara, we stopped into the Salumeria Gardoni where we had an amazing platter assembled for us--thin slices of 7-8 different types of salami, prosciutto, as well as my favorite new tan-colored cold cut which was described to me as "tutti [all of the pig]" (a description I didn't really need to know). Mr. Gardoni is clearly an artisanal master of his craft and we savored every last bite from this platter for our picnic lunch (and dinner), supplemented with an equally-varied assortment of cheese and bread that we bought in another town along our way (traveling from Bologna to San Vincenzo). It wasn't cheap--about 30E for our platter--but you'll want to buy as much as you can eat or give as gifts while you are in Europe!

Note: We had hoped to share one large unsliced salami with friends at home, but U.S. Customs at JFK took the salami away. Apparently it is prohibited and seized, and though (seemingly arbitrary) exceptions apparently are made sometimes, I've heard that there is a large fine if you don't declare meat and it's discovered.

Amazing place for a very interesting food break; the excellent cured meats from the fantastic Parma ham, to the very good coppa, to the rare raw shoulder, the parmesan and the choice of wines are also excellent. The owner Giacomo is really kind and welcoming, really very good 👏👏👏

We stopped to buy local products. Good raw ham (in my opinion there are better ones), excellent raw Salme, excellent cooked ham. The biggest problem is the price: it is excessive for zero km products.
