Amazing place. Lovely scenery. Walking shoes required as narrow in places. Lots of people to chat to as you walk even if you only speak a little polish.
Coffee hut at the top but very steep walk down. My poor knees are suffering now. Defiantly worth a visit and if at the bottom your too tired to walk back the taxi bus passes by for very few plz.

Tarnica would be the trail to be in!
Especially when you reach the peak, there is a long walk on top that is breathtaking as it's roughly flat, with small bumps across!

Hi,
Bieszczady are stunning. Full of big predators. Unesco Carpathian beech forests, remote , aside of main Poland. 4 seasons here are very cool. Best places?
From Tarnica to Rozsypaniec
Bukowe Berdo
Połonina Wetlińska
Wooden churches hide in the woods
Little Alaska
One of last primeval forests in Europe.

This is an absolute heaven for hikers! The trails are not demanding in the sense of climbing: no chains or special equipment is needed, but still not easy as they are long, with no shelters or shops on the way. But the nature and the views are stunning!
There are plenty of paths (3-8 hours long) to chose from. The most popular are: Polonina Carynska, Polonina Wetlinska, the highest mountain of Tarnica, but also the top of Smerek, the trail from Mała Rawka to Wielka Rawka are worth trying. From Wielka Rawka it takes only 45min to the point where the borders of Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine meeet.
There are a few things one have to bear in mind before going:* take food and drinks with you (no shops outside the villages);* most trails take you to a distant place from your starting point therefore there are small busses going to the most popular destinations (you have to wait until all the seats are taken before you go, so there is no timetable) or you can hitch-hike;* the entrance to the National Park is paid - 8PLN ( 2Euro); *no pets are allowed to the park; *and it is not "the forgotten end of the world" any more, so if you want to aviod crowds I'd recommend weekdays.
And it's beautiful all year round! with crispy fresh air and silence.

In the far southeastern corner of Poland, the Bieszczady National Park is far from major population centers in Poland, and so it is usually uncrowded. That's good, because the wild animals are plentiful there, and can surprise a visitor in an unexpected encounter.
I was not blessed with such an encounter, but I hiked up to the top of Mt. Tarnica, and it was well worth the 2-hour trek to get there.
I enjoyed stunning vistas and felt like I was in a very special place.
Follow the posted signs and don't get off track and wander up to the border with Ukraine, however, or you will spend some time in the back of a Polish Border Patrol vehicle as the officers fill out reams of paperwork (and fine you 50 Zlotys)! ;)

Fourth biggest national park in Poland, with its authorities seat in Ustrzyki Górne. Deffinitely for hikers minly, with two massifs, called Połonina (Wetlińska and Caryńska) and the highest in Polish part of Bieszczady - Tarnica available to climb by many different hiking trails. This mainly unhabited area couses some problems in public transport, as that basically doesn't exist. Instead ther are small buses waiting for tourists in popular spots, and start their way as soon as the bus fills up, no timetabe involved, but prices are quite low. But that only works in season, from may to end of october weekends mainly, plus summer holidays everyday. Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy is also a part of huge international complex protecting nature, with it's equivalents in Ukraine (the border still prevents tourists from getting accross) and in Slovakia (anyone can cross this border in any chosen spot, considering that national park rules on both sides of the border don't allow walking outside the network of marked trails). I do remember my first encounters with Bieszczady in early 1990s, when it was all wild, quiet and no rush, now torusists numbers increased few times since, traffic queues can be longer than on motorways, there could even be a queue to walk the last bit of Tarnica trail, but still there are parts of the highest Bieszczady, where everyone can find themselfs peace and quiet. Bieszczady National Park also owns a nature museum in Ustrzyki Dolne, one of the biggest such museums in Poland, but that is very far from the main complex, and I would think it has been inscribed as a separate object on TripAdvisor.

It takes quite a while to get here from all the major cities in Poland and as such there really aren’t many people to spoil the long walks and vistas across the amazing mountain-scape. The trails into the mountains can be very tough - with temperatures in the high 20s you’ll be soaked with sweat in no time. But there are easier assents although these can be a little busy (comparatively!). Not a huge amount of wildlife to see (but there are wolves and bears in these then hills!) but the tranquility of being atop a mountain you’ve just hurt to get up cannot be beat. There are many trails to choose to fit most abilities. And after you come down, streams to swim and cool down in. Would recommend that you stay as close to the National Park as possible so that as soon as you get up you’re in the nature and close to the trails.

Went for my first time to this beautiful area. I fell in love with it and would go back for sure. Be sure to bring a good pair of hiking shoes, you will need them!

Is there public transportation to the park? If so, from where? Can one get around the park without a car?
Where are some good places to stay near the park?

PT runs everyday so don't worry. You can start in Wetlina, Smerek, Cisna, Wolosate, Ustrzyki Gorne. There you find starting points to many hiking paths. A car isn't essential but remember that hiking trails are long, beautiful and breathtaking. Do not hesitate and come for it.
