Visit to monastry
Okt 2019 • Pasangan
Wonderful visit to this monastry. We were limited for time so only scanned the building. Would have liked to stay for a whole morning or afternoon to see everything there was to see. We did manage to see the wine museum which we found to be fascinating. Of course we purchased a few bottles of wine and found them absolutely delicious!

Peaceful and Pretty Stop
Agt 2019 • Sendiri
The Monasterio de Santa Maria de Veruela is a very pretty and peaceful place to stop and while away an hour or so. The entrance fee is a nominal €1.80 pp.

Once inside you can wander around the buildings and grounds. What little signage and information there is, is all in Spanish - there is little or no accommodation for other languages beyond the general leaflet you are given when you purchase your ticket. That is not to say you still cannot enjoy the grounds.

It is a short drive from here to Tarazona so it is a very worthwhile stopping point.

Great monastery
Apr 2018 • Keluarga
I have been many times but every time I learn something new about the history or the building

They soon open a parador and then will be a busy place I think because it’s very well preserved and the views of Moncayo in the background makes this monastery a perfect visit close to nearby Tarazona

Well preserved Cistercian monastery
Mei 2017 • Teman
This huge former monastery will eventually become part of the parador system of Spain and I am sure that it will be as beautiful a place to stay as to visit. We spent a leisurely morning on a guided tour in English by a charming young lady. The grounds and the wine museum are very well looked after. For wine buffs the museum provides so much information on the factors affecting the taste etc of wine and the on site shop provides a good selection of wines from local bodegas - but no free samples.

Just as grand on the second visit
Okt 2014 • Pasangan
This was the second time visiting the attraction of the Monastery of Veruela and wine museum there. Be aware that the entire museum is in Spanish only (no English language subtitles), but you can cope. The videos are interesting even without narration, and the old wine making machines fascinating. Do not, however buy wine in the wine shop. The prices are way overblown for readily available wines. The monastery itself is a real delight. The carvings in the cloisters will entertain both children and adults and the opulence in the church proper is notable. Even on our second visit we spent about 2 hours walking the attraction. The 1.80 euro cost for admission makes this an excellent buy.

Fascinating

We enjoyed several hours there, fascinated by the history and the design. The wine museum display is very well designed. Wine tasting is fun, sitting on the veranda overlooking the vines.

Land of Garnacha
Apr 2012 • Teman
Close to Borja (the in/famous Jesus painting makeover place), this is a very nicely preserved monastery. Nice to visit at any time of the year.
Surprisingly, and unbeknownst to anyone, there is an excellent wine museum attached to it, sponsored by the Campo de Borja region. Excellent. On par with many in North America. Not as commercialized, and maybe the appeal lies in that.
The exhibits dedicated to the varietal of garnacha (grenache) which is regaining its lost long reputation.
If you go to visit in off season times, make sure to bring lunch.
The actual monastery is small but has some historical exhibits, especially of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, a Spanish poet and story writer.
A very nice outing with family, especially if you are interested in wines.
