If you are not coming for skiing, there is not much fun. You can take a view of the ski tracks which look impressive in the summer months, but not worth to come just for a visit...

Amazing opportunity to cross country ski the entire year. The ski hall is always -4 degrees. The entire hall can be completed in the first 10 minutes. There are a couple of challenging inclines that provide a great workout. Really enjoyed this experience!

For reasons that I won't bore you with, it's taken 18 years but I finally fulfilled my ambition to attend a live biathlon. The event was terrific - sold out and packed with good natured German (and small quantities of other European) fans singing and drinking gluten or beer while we waiting, and cheering lustily as the athletes competed. Absolutely great fun however, a few words of advice (1) the lines for the Ladies bathrooms during breaks were enormous (less so for us men) (2) the lines for snacks (bratwurst) and beer or gluten were also horrendous so maybe take your own food (not sure they allow you to take your own alcohol and they do bag checks) and (3) it's a single lane road for quite a long way to the town and the venue, often choked with tour buses and any volume of traffic and it gets very slow - so don't be in a hurry and the nearest parking is quite a walk from the venue.

Was a good surprise to us as there was no snow outside.
Good quality of snow, not too expensive for 2hrs+rental.
As beginner, it is better to avoid peak times - the track is used by semi professionals who get upset by people blocking their track and degrading their performance 😉

There are around 2km of loipe with cut Classic tracks and pisted Skating, formed of 3 separate looped sections connected to a central square. Each loop has an "uphill" section.
PROS:
1. It's indoors so weather not a problem! Temperature is a constant -4 degrees, so easy to wax and dress for! 2.Good quality Equipment (skis, boots, poles) can be hired in the excellent shop with very helpful staff. 3) Excellent for concentrated practise of technique
CONS: 1) can get very busy which can make it difficult to go at your own pace 2) Doing the same loops repeatedly can get boring 3) It';s indoors, so no stunning views as when you ski outside!

Oberhof ski tunnel is known amoungst world class nordic skiers and biathletes and for good reason. Set in a sleepy village surrounded by forest if you didn't know it was there you would miss it. The ski tunnel is world class and indeed you can usually see world class skier from around the world including the German national team members skiing the loops. The tunnels are wide and have a variety of incline and the snow is meticulosly maintained and groomed. As you would expect from the Germans - everything is scheduled and works perfectly. The locker rooms/showers/changing rooms are adequate and have €1 key system for safe keeping while you are in the tunnel. The ski shop is well stocked with every kind of ski kit you could need and they rent not only snow skis etc but they have a full range or roller skis and off track roller skis for rental should you want to make use of the excellent and challenging roller ski track or forest tracks near the ski halle. They can also arrange ski lessons, roller ski lessions and biathlon for you at the shop. It was great to get some on snow training in the summer ( and watch the German national team practice) and Oberhof is a delightful village just a few hours from Frankfurt.
