Cold War Museum-Chalk Mines
Okt 2019
Although advertised as the chalk mines which are interesting as such, the most interesting part of this attraction is the incredible Cold War Museum. It is obvious that this is the real passion of the museum and its curator. You are greeted at the door by a full size mock up of Little Boy, the bomb that wiped out Hiroshima. Inside you can see how many thousands more could have been killed by more modern and hundreds if not thousands of times more powerful weapons. Here in these hillsides the Danish built a bunker which was intended to shelter the Danish Crown and Government while the ordinary Danish people fried. You walk through incredible exhibitions of memorabilia from different countries and different epicentres of the Cold War, and the memories make you shiver. You see a floppy disk from 1970 that still is responsible for setting off Armageddon (or not) and realise that the "all clear" has not really been sounded and there still seem to be enough idiots out there to worry about, even though you have an opportunity to turn the handle on the siren that used to make you shudder with fright. There is plenty of hands-on stuff-you can pick up the receiver on a real real plastic hot line phone from a bunker in Eastern Europe and your imagination takes flight. You can don gas masks and uniforms and have your picture taken as a communist Red Guard. The only criticism of the museum is that a text in other languages, particularly English, is sorely needed. It would also be incredible if the real bunker were to be opened to the public, though if things do not improve in some parts of the world in the near future we may find that it may unfortunately need to be available for some years to come! Those who do not learn from the past may be doomed to relive it.

It's interesting to see the limestone mine and the sculptures. But I wish there's a show about the process of mining. Or did I miss to see it somewhere?
