You can park wherever you want because the city has an elevator that takes you to different points of interest. I got off at the height of the Duomo. From there you can choose to go up to the fortress or take this very nice pedestrian route that culminates at the bridge of towers. Very nice.

A wonderful trail that leads from near Piazza Garabaldi to the Ponte delle Torri. We just wish the Ponte was open to pedestrian travel so we could complete the loop instead of retracing our steps.

Yes the ponte del torre is closed (since 24/7/16). Yes it is a pain.

Right, now walk from town to the alternative start from Chiesa S.Pietro (church of saint Peter) and follow the signs. It's an easy walk relatively flat. Towards the end as you go past some old farm houses it can get a bit steep going down hill but I'd still class it as easy. The best views are back over the valley towards the castle and the old (XIII) bridge.

Just do it. You won't regret it.

Not so easy to reach this at the moment, as the Ponte dei Torri is closed following the 2016 earthquakes, however, you can get to this walking route in other ways. This is a level route along the hills opposite the town, with great views of the old town and castle (La Rocca). Plenty of other footpaths up into the hills are well signposted from here.

Yes, access to this trail is complicated by the fact that you can't cross the aqueduct. Don't be put off - the views are simply too stunning to miss out on this hike! A previous review gives directions for how to access the trail, but here's an alternative (about 20 minutes to the trail head):

-From the old town/city center, take Via Monterrone (minutes from the Piazza del Mercato) - go downhill until you exit the old walls
-Continue STRAIGHT until you pass a gas station on your left (you can't miss it!)
-Turn LEFT at the gas station, heading directly toward the church of S Pietro. Yes, you have to cross a busy road - it's tricky but totally doable.
-The road (Via Giro de Ponte) veers left- simply follow it and you will see clear signs pointing you toward the start of the Giro dei Condotti.

The start of the hike is steep and a bit rocky, but consider that our five-year-old was able to do it and I saw plenty of older hikers on the trail. Then it evens out and the views back to the town and the ponte and breath-taking. Bring a picnic lunch - there are picnic tables at several of the scenic lookouts. Even if you don't hike all the way (we had to double-back to retrieve our stroller), the experience is simply incredible.

The 1st thing I want to say is to find the tourist office...they will NOT try to sell you anything and from there you can get a map of the town. the next thing is FIND the ELECTRIC sidewalk. We walked and walked and walked and it is all uphill until we found it. Once you get to the top it is just an amazing view. The museum is cool, but the bridge and the views are awesome. A must see.

If you are considering taking a hike along the Giro dei Condotti at the present time it is not possible to cross over the Ponte della Torri as it is closed due to earthquakes in recent years. Access to the Giro must be sought from other paths.

Spoleto is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. The Umbrian area is green and you can see the sweeping countryside as you hike and tour the area. It is breathtaking

Spoleto, swathed in ancientness. Spectacularly situated with some of the most interesting things to do. Climbing mountains over high bridges where stunning views across the countryside were a highlight for us. Think Isabella Rosalini, theater and water fountains. Gelato, and tomato pasta and prosecco. What is also incredible is that underneath this ancient city is an amazing massive escalatored walk ways. Amazing! Loved this place, but then again we loved all of Italy.

With the children this is a great walk with wonderful views of the bridge and city. Not too steep the route is a pleasure and ensures a good appetite for lunch!
