The bridge is closed due to earthquake damage. It is still beautiful to look at, but you can't cross it.

I highly recommend the pedestrian path that passes in front of the entrance to the fortress: you can pass very close to the bridge of towers.

This was actually an aqueduct first built by Romans, reconstructed in the 12th century. It's beautiful, vast, huge, connecting fortresses. I think we paid something like 7 euro per person to go up the the rock fortress / castle / prison "Rocca Albornoz." There are great views from up there. You can walk around the backside of the fortress to a dirt trail that leads down the ravine.

Spoleto was a great visit, starting with the escalators which allowed easy access to main areas of the city by avoiding steep uphill walks. What a fantastic system! Took the escalators to the central part of the city for awesome paninis and local vino, and then to the main attractions. After reaching the castle (La Rocca) we soaked in the spectacular views of the incredible Ponte delle Torri and the surrounding areas. Did not walk to it but I think that you can actually walk thru the Ponte across the canyon to the other side.Such an impressive structure that has lasted centuries, a must see!

Spoleto was great little town and fresh food markets. Lunch at cafe up near the bridge was great. Magnificent venison of town and surrounding area.

One of my reasons to stay in Spoleto was to cross the Ponte delle Torri.
But when I arrived there, after a walk around the Rocca, I met the high fences and
could not cross. I just watched the side walk through the bridge reserved for the pedestrians. The bridge is facinating and I satisfied myself with taking photos

This is a fascinating building, built by the romans to transport water and people across the valley. Since a recent earthquake you are not allowed to cross the Ponte / bridge anymore because it is considered unsafe, but it is still a spectacular site to see.

tip: park your car at the Parcheggio della Ponzianina, from there it is a 5 min walk to the escalators (6 or 7 in a row, free of charge) that take you up to the rocca. From the Rocca it is a 5 in walk to the Ponte delle Torri. Parcheggio della Ponzianina is the cheapest place to park your car and a very convenient starting point of your day in Spoleto.

An incredible engineering accomplishment, makes for beautiful photos at any time of day. Unfortunately not open to cross the bridge.

The beautiful, historic bridge at Spoleto is closed to foot traffic. Older travel information can mislead you, and relying on that outdated information, we expected to cross the Ponte delle Torri in the fall of 2018. It has become too unstable to allow pedestrians to cross and high chain-link fences prevent you from even considering it. It is still worth visiting. The bridge is located in Umbria in central Italy, less than two hour’s drive from Rome or three hours by car from Florence. Update: as of October 2019 the Ponte delle Torri is still unavailable to cross and there is no scheduled re-opening.

An engineering marvel that would make a wonderful loop hike via the Giro dei Condotti but, unfortunately, the Ponte is closed to pedestrian traffic because of the earthquake. The rumor is that the bridge is fine, but the region is holding it hostage for funds to do a restoration.
