We have been coming to Roccaraso and in particular Aremogna Pizzalto for the last 3 years during February half term. It’s perfect for the family, inexpensive to rent ski equipment and the ski passes are flexible enough to allow for mixed abilities. As a helpful tip I would avoid Italian holidays such as the week of Shrove Tuesday as it does get very busy! Otherwise you will have the place to yourselves during week days, no queues at ski lifts here! Easy parking at 4 Euros a day. Just love the place!

I was surprised to find such a great ski area so far south. The ski season is not long but for the time it is open there's some good skiing or snowboarding. The coverage is not always fantastic and I have jacked up my base on some rocks. Because the temperature warms and freezes there are sections where it gets icy. Best to go on weekdays if possible, especially right after a storm so you can experience at least a little powder. If you're new to the European skiing experience you should just know to never ever go skiing on a weekend. Europeans don't do lines at the lifts and will push and shove and stand all over your snowboard and the resorts tend to sell so many tickets that the mountain gets overly crowded. It's just not worth it. However, on a weekday, you can't beat this place without going all the way up to the Dolomites!
