This museum is a highlight that one would not expect to find attached to a fine, but small, country church, such as San Pietro a Cascia is.
The museum is explained by the purpose to gather in one place, to keep them safely, works of art once scattered in different churches in the Reggello countryside. In this way, works of art (not only paintings, but also plenty of liturgical vestments and goldsmith works) that otherwise would have been visible with great difficulty, and in different places, constitute a "critical mass" such as to make it possible to open the museum with a relatively extended visiting hours over the week.
The museum is therefore configured as a real museum of the territory. Even the most precious piece of the collection, the so-called "Triptych of San Giovenale", takes its name from a church in the area, San Giovenale in fact, where it was formerly guarded.
This work is considered the first one by Masaccio, being dated 1422 (Masaccio was born in 1401, in nearby San Giovanni Valdarno). Masaccio is the first of the Tuscan painters fully belonging to the Renaissance era, in his short life (he died in 1428 or 1429) he was a real renovator of his art, which reached its peaks at the Brancacci Chapel into the Chiesa del Carmine, Florence.
The museum layout is also very valuable.
Basically, it's an attraction not to be missed.

I was looking around for something to do on the way to Lucca and discovered this Masaccio Museum in Reggello not far off the A-1. Although there are other pieces of art in this small museum the main draw is Masaccio’s St. Juvenal’s triptych. To find the museum you must look behind the San Pietro di Cascia. The St. Juvenal triptych is an early work by Masaccio who went on to become a co-creator of the Brancacci Chapel in Florence. He is mainly responsible for the figure of St. Juvenal. There is an interactive video which explains how the figure was restored. A fee is required and at least the day we were there the desk man was not very interested in helping us.

I was in Tuscany with my girlfriend and were advised to drive through the Setteponti itinerary. We started at Cascia near Reggello where the Masaccio museum is. While wondering in the Cascia church, we were approached by a local, signor Giorgio, who gave us some info on the church and opened the museum just for us. We decided to pay the 3 EURO tickets of course, Giorgio gave us a private lecture on the Trittico of San Giovenale from Masaccio. I was moved to tears for the level of details Masaccio put in this masterpiece, that could easily be at Uffizi, Louvre or any other major museum, but luckily was left in Cascia. Thank you forever Signor Giorgio, my father was called like you and would have loved to hear about the Trittico!
Strongly recommend a visit, there are also a bar and a couple of (obviously good) restaurants nearby. Then keep driving on the Setteponti towards Loro Ciuffenna, you will not regret!

There is a lot of history and wonderful art to see at this museum. There are two separate floors of things to see...I particularly enjoyed the history behind the paintings. In addition, there is a small gift shop.
