Try not to miss it as it is not on the main street in Erice, Vittorio Emanuele, but on a parallel street, Via Fontana.
Definitely worth it, so try to make time.

Definitely don't miss a visit to this church which is one of the churches that you can visit on the combined ticket. It looks very plain from the outside but the interior is white, light and beautiful - very Baroque.
The church was erected by Roger the Norman and the King was brought here to meet the magistrates whenever he visited Erice. You enter via a C16th courtyard with pillared porticoes on three sides. The church itself was rebuilt in C17th and has three naves with columns of grey marble. It has a very high ceiling that is beautifully painted with lots of artwork and statues. Also visit The Congregation and the Sacristy - the former has the original church altar and nice frescoes and was used for meetings of The Confraternity of St Martin and Purgatory, the latter lots of artwork and religious artefacts on display. A pleasant church to wander round and to listen to the background choral music.

There are several churches in medieval Erice . It is hard to decide which one is the most impressive . Chiesa Di San Martino , built in the 14th cent. seems to be plain on the outside, but wth the sculptures art works and painting inside - it's a pleasure to one's eyes .

Most churches you visit, that's it, the church. Here they have owned up several more rooms with small exhibitions in them. And they have music playing. Very atmospheric.

I really like the Chiesa Di San Martino. It has a lovely, light atmosphere with so much 'whiteness' and is well worth visiting. It is included in the price of the Erice ticket. the building dates from the 14th Century but underwent reconstruction commencing in 1682 and finished in 1688. Further changes including the erection of a bell tower took place in the 18th century. There is plenty to admire within the building including a superb statue of San Martino, other statues and art work and some beautiful wooden furnishings. Do not be put off by the rather plain exterior - it is a joy to enter.

Chiesa di San Martino was originally a Gothic church, built 14th century. In 1682 it was reconstructed and building was completed in 1688. The interior underwent more changes in the 18th century.

The interior is so crisp and white and the nave floor is beautiful. This is included on the €15 Erice Pass.
There is a A4 photocopy handout given with info in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish.

Chiesa di San Martino is another church included in the combination "5 Churches of Erice" ticket. Rather modest exterior with lovely portal details contrasts with beautiful white full of light interior with interesting woodwork of the choir and the pulpit, the equestrian wooden statue of St. Martino (1605), and some notable paintings.

Frankly I think Erice is worth for the views, so if it is cloudy, which it often is, then you missed out on the best the city has to offer. This church is really a very average to below average church in terms of architectural and artistic value, compared to others in Sicily. The white interior is somewhat less common, and is a consequence of the church's late building time (1700s).
