Having driven up to the Main entrance car park the day before we were astonished to find that at 10am the following day May 17 the the car park was totally closed for resurfacing. So drive back down to the bottom car park and then pay for a taxi to take us back to the start again. The valley is on a long 2.5 mile slope SO it is a lot easier and far more convenient to start at the top.
Throughout Sicily the organising authorities have little idea as to how to cherish their antiquities and even less how to treat the flow of keen visitors to what are some outstanding Greek and Roman ruins.
This complacency is un forgivable as is the ability to clear rubbish from the countryside!!

It's a place you can't miss. It's full of history, well preserved, with beautiful vegetation surrounding it. If you are in Sicily, it's a must!

Well worth a visit. The area is very well serviced with water stations (bring a refillable bottle) and toilets. The ruins are spectacular. We travelled by train from Palermo and took the local (no 1) bus to the Valley of the Temples. We left by a gate at the opposite end of the site and got the no. 2 bus back via the beach but it was a long wait and not worth the extra journey so probably quicker to go back the way you came in. The only negative about the site is that it would benefit from better directions and signage. The visit to the gardens was not worth the extra €6!

The ruins here are extensive and spectacular. My wife and I spent three hours pouring over them and admiring them. Reviewed by Miles Archer of Boca Raton, Florida

I was on a guided tour to Sicily and we visited this outstanding site. I liked it best of all the sights we saw during the journey. It is hard to understand that this Greek temples still exists in Sicily. Of course many of the temples are in bad condition, but Concordia was outstanding, the other Temple of Juno and Temple of Hercules was in ruins, but still impressive. The Valley of Temples is one of the most outstanding examples of ancient Greek art and architecture, and is one of the main attractions of Sicily.Temple of Concordia, whose name comes from a Latin inscription found nearby, and which was built in the 5th century BC. Turned into a church in the 6th century AD, it is now one of the best preserved in the Valley. Temple of Juno, also built in the 5th century BC. It was burnt in 406 BC by the Carthaginians. Temple of Heracles, who was one of the most venerated deities in the ancient Akragas. It is the most ancient in the Valley: destroyed by an earthquake, it consists today of only eight columns.

Wonderful stop, a must see while in Sicily , Easy to get to. We had a tour guide that gave us a lots of information about the site. While you may not be able to get onto the ruins you could get a wheel chair right up to the steps of the ruins. I would recommend this site.

A large area with multiple ruins. The famous Temple of Concordia is the main attraction with the Icarus statue nearby. Need a guide to provide details of key ruins. Well worth a visit with a guide.

I took the train from Palermo to Agrigento (which was very scenic) and a taxi from the train station to the Valley of the Temples. I read that there are regular buses to the area but I did not see any. I was glad that I arrived there early (around 10:00), as there were already a lot of people there but I was able to get some great pictures without people in. I was there for about 2 hours, during which time it had filled up with tourists and tour groups. Definitely worth a visit.

When in Sicily…. Agrigento is a must do! It is huge, but can be enjoyed also as a shorter visit if you accept you don’t want to see it all. Also you can walk in one direction and leave at the other car park to get a taxi back.

Things you need to know:

The cafe in the ruins is not only ok it’s delightful and good value. Ignore the Rough Guide!

Toilets: free but few and far

Tickets:
Just the temples
Plus the garden or
Plus the museum
(You can buy add on tickets when you reach the garden)

We were going to do temples and museum but OH was poorly so we went back to the hotel. However, if we had been 100% the gardens looked very tempting, shady and strenuous to do!

The temples are easy to access and doable with a buggy or wheelchair.
