Not a large Nature Reserve nice walk on a well laid path & route. Plenty of bird hides for the bird watchers.
Circular walk & nice to walk one way then turn & repeat the opposite way as things do look different.
Warm welcome into small visitors center & cafe with out door sitting. Also seats & tables available for picnics.

I've been to low barns lots of times. Great little nature reserve to visit and usually fairly quiet. For a long time over the pandemic the cafe was just a hatch and outside tables but I am very pleased it is now a cafe again. However I have to say, given that it is a cafe with table service, I was really really disappointed and quite annoyed at the service I received. The young girl on the desk was not particularly welcoming. I asked for the advertised Victoria sponge but there wasn't any left. So I got a scone and a latte and a lolly for my 2 kids. I went with them to sit outside. Waited a good 15 minutes, which is FINE however when they eventually brought the stuff, the latte was half full, anaemic in colour and they hadn't brought any butter for the scone. I asked for butter and they replied "do you think you can come in and get it yourself" quite taken aback, I said no!! However after waiting for 5 mins and basically being ignored, I had to go in and get it myself. I asked for some hot milk to go in the latte and I got brought water!! Another lady apologised for the wait, but basically the wait is not the issue, it's the attitude. And it was lunch time and not particularly busy.

If you offer table service. Do that. If customers are supposed to get their own, tell them that, as its not that easy to leave your table and get stuff, when you have a baby and a toddler.

Really don't understand the snotty attitude and poor service. Everything too difficult for the staff here. I'm not getting this food for free- I did pay for it! I find this increasingly more and more at places I visit. I don't know maybe cafes don't like customers with kids- although we seem to spend a lot more money!!

We really love it here. Not a long walk but lovely. Really enjoyable to stop and watch nature, taking in the birds. Cafe is nice for a drink and cake. Had a sandwich, which was very basic and bland but otherwise good.

I visited this nature reserve for 3 hours with friends. The first hide had bird feeders close to the large pond. Unfortunate;y the feeders are so close to the hide that you could not see birds feeding on the ground without standing up. A pair of Mute Swans with 5 full grown young wer close to the hide and feeders. Mallards, Tufted Ducks, Coots and Moorhens were seen on the pond. Wood Pigeons flew into the Alder wood at the back of the pond. Two Roe were wellcamouflaged in the dense weed growth at the far edge of the pond. At the feeders Blue tits, coal tits and Great Tits were seen along with Chaffinches, a Dunnock, a Great Spotted Woodpeckerm a Starling and a kone male Pheasant. A long walk to the bext hide on a hill near the river added very little to the list. Common Reeds are swampimg the pond. A Grey Squirrel was seen. We then returned to the cafe. At the cafe we saw a murmuration of about 700 Starlings twisting and turning but they suddenly dropped into the reeds. Also seen on the pond were 4 Goosanders and 7 Cormorants. Leaving the area to Nature is spoiling this reserve.

What a fantastic nature reserve.
For £2 car parking we spent 5 hours looking at birds from the 4 hides and along the riverbank. Very varied landscape from wet woodland to riverbank: a large lake, reed beds and feeders in the woodlands at the end. The hides are well placed and give great opportunities to sit and observe the birds. Being mid June there were plenty of bird families: herons, swans, cormorants, grebe, tufted ducks, blue tits. Nesting pairs of lapwing, oyster catcher, black headed gulls. And then single birds: Reed bunting, reed warbler, blackcap, treecreeper, dipper, sand pipers, sedge warbler, gold finches, and greater spotted woodpecker.
Although it was Sunday and there were plenty of dog walkers, it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the space and the wildlife.
There are a couple of picnic tables in the butterfly garden if you bring your own picnic: and benches dotted about on the way round.
Saw fabulous wild flowers- lots of orchids, campion, honesty plus some rarer flowers I've still to identify from photos.
Don't forget your binoculars!

Went for a walk last Sunday to get some fresh air into our lungs and a bit of exercise and chose Low Barns as I had never been before. The weather was not great so we didn’t want a huge long walk so this suited us well. Plenty parking and a nicely stocked cafe - albeit takeaway due to COVID but that suited us fine. An enjoyable walk around the nature reserve with friends and no traffic noise or throngs of people hurrying around. Great way to spend a couple of hours outdoors

It never ceases to amaze me: How Nature survives in the Wild;
When you look at little Chicks with Mum: All, so Meek and Mild!

Rain, Storm, Wind and Cold with only Shrubs and Trees to Protect;
Whilst we require Coats and Hats and Boots as a minimum to be: Bedecked!

This 'Low Barnes' Wildlife Park is 'Free' to wander round at Will;
We donate £4 per month as do others, helping to pay a Maintenance Bill.

The Area was Well Hacked Down, several years ago;
It has taken all this time to recover, with Wildlife Return; Quite Slow.

There is plenty of Seating for those with a need , plus Several, Staunch, Helpers who Volunteer;
If you want a snack, with an Hour or So to Fill, this is the place to Saunter: Right Here!!

The weather was pretty wet - but sitting in a hide, watching about 20 species of different birds flying in and out - around the feeders within the first hide was exceptional.
The reserve is well maintained. The paths are good and clean. The toilets are clean too and if you need a hot drink or soup, the cafe there have plenty.
We just brought our own hot drinks with biscuits...enjoyed watching the antics of all the birds - esp the nuthatch fighting over food. The mallards were funny too - they just stood around looking up at the feeders - hoping the little birds will throw some down for them. The jay made an appearance - so did the Greater Spotted Woodpecker and a Treecreeper! Coal tits, great tits, blue tits, gold finches, chaffinches, robins, pheasants, wrens, dunnocks...and in the other hide, there are waders such as little egret, little grebes, geese aplenty and the more usual ones.
However, if you only have a limited time, just stick to the first hide.
