What an amazing find! A superb art gallery where you least expect to find one. Well worth a visit.
Guides were helpful and knowledgeable, each based in a well curated section of the gallery

World class art gallery with fantastic, friendly curators and beautiful art work. Definitely worth visiting! So glad I didn’t miss this gem on my trip to the Durham area.

Been twice to the gallery.I go to many galleries but this is one of the most beautiful .El Greco a favourite!

Stunning is the only word I can use to describe this gallery. The paintings are needed to be seen but for me the highlight is on the top floor. The very cleverly manufactured carvings, statues etc mean the gallery is a must.
I would recommend anyone coming to the North East to visit, as well as the other attractions in the Auckland Project, you won’t be disappointed

Such a privilege to have this quality of art in the north. If this was in the south, you wouldn’t be able to get near the paintings, but we were able to take our time going round this wonderful gallery and able to get really close to them. As others have said, some of the display boards are difficult to read, either because of the colour scheme, font size or both. In a time when going abroad is far from straightforward, it’s great to bring something of Spain here. The top floor gallery was a surprise and very well done. My only criticism would be the price. People from out of the area, especially the south of the UK, would pay, as we did, but it’s a bit steep for locals in a fairly deprived area. A resident’s card would be something to consider in the future.

This is a truly remarkable initiative and has delivered a world class gallery which is accessible in all respects - the works of the highest quality and are displayed with excellent lighting and positioning and the building is fully accessible to those with mobility issues - my wife uses a wheelchair and found found it very easy to get around. The facsimiles by Factum Arte are just like all of their works - breathtaking in their quality. There are issues with some of the notices which are in a small typeface and colours which make them difficult to read - apparently, this is a known issue and is to be addressed when funds permit. Charming and very knowledgeable staff who were extremely helpful - it is actually best though not necessarily logical to start on the ground floor and work up. This was a wonderful way of spending a wintry April afternoon and we will certainly return (as well as recommending the gallery to our friends)

This is an outstanding gallery. The collection will not be to everyone’s taste, concentrating virtually exclusively on Spanish 15-17th century art and heavy with religious paintings as you would expect from this period. The gallery itself has been well designed and laid out and I particularly enjoyed the ability to view the pictures hung high from the balcony on the next floor. There are pictures from all the major artists of the period and these are of premier quality. Explanations of the art, artist and period are as good (and to a large extent better ) than more major UK and European museums.
The top floor contains copies/reconstructions of paintings, plasterwork , tiles etc from the period. I recall this being rather sniffily reviewed by the Guardian and others when it opened and all I can say is that these guys need to get out more! I had seen some of the Toledo pieces in the flesh at a distance and it was a real treat to be able to examine up close. This was proper use of modern technology and I wish more might adopt such an approach - maybe an answer for the British Museum?!
This ought to be a must see for anyone visiting the north East and I hope local population will support the endeavour . Will be nice to have tapas downstairs when this opens later in the year .

I visited the Spanish Art Gallery shortly after it opened and took a niece along who is a fan of art. We both loved it.
The Volunteer staff are lovely and engaging and made my niece feel very welcome, before going I was concerned the price would be too high at £10 for an adult but after I can truly say it was worth every penny. The artwork itself is a mix of the collection belonging to Jonathan and Jane Ruffer, the philanthropist couple behind the transformation of the town and also facsimile artwork which all has Spain as its main theme.
Being colour blind I found a couple of the information panels impossible to read and also a bit far away for my eyesight to make out, luckily my niece read out most of them for me.
We spent a couple of hours in there and sadly had to rush the top floor before closing, we will definitely be back and this time start at the top and work our way down.

A wonderful new gallery with some beautiful art. Perhaps i would have preferred things a little more low key and some of the lighting a bit more subtle in places.
Spotlighting was a bit harsh in the main atrium.
Still a very enjoyable and rewarding visit.
Some of the art is world class.Well done.
Spent nearly 2 hours there and still had to rush the last gallery as the place was closing.
