Not often we visit places like this, but the other reviews are basically what I want to say too. Very interesting place and good to go with the family, the history and stories told were really engaging, will definitely be back with other family members in the future!

Another fantastic day out at the Ulster Folk Museum for May day celebrations. Fun filled day with activities for all the family spent nearly 5 hours there seeing the sights and getting involved. The children enjoyed the traditional music and games. Great to see all the happy faces having a lovely time. Informative also with hearing the stories such as the blacksmith, basket weaver, butter churned and dressmaker. A lovely small farm onsite also with lovely walking trail. Picnic facilities onsite or tea room/cafe available. Transport museum is across from the site and worth a view also .

Easy Online booking with your preferred time & payment. Don’t forget to print off the voucher & then present it at admissions on your arrival.

The exhibits are very good & high lights included

~ Ballycultra Dispensary with the hilarious Doctor partaking of a bit of banter. We said it was great to see a doctor face to face during these Covid times & he said he was not aware of Covid, he had trouble treating people with Consumption.

~ the Corner sweet house that sells some sweets I had forgotten were available. Purchase in 2 or 4 ounces weighed out on old fashioned scales & then dispensed into paper bags. Memories.

~ Bairds Print Shop. The printer explained the printing process which was interesting & we came away with a couple of prints.

~ the Old Rectory. The lady exhibitor was very pleasant to chat to & she baked soda bread over the turf fire. Didn’t try it this time but on our last visit a couple of decades ago I tried the soda with their own churned butter which was horrible, really was an acquired taste.

The houses/buildings/exhibits have information plaques close to their entrances partaking of its history & other interesting facts.

The Ballycultra Tea Room is fine, a bit expensive but the toasties & pastries are nice.

Toilets available scattered around the park.

Covid measures in place include wearing of face coverings or social distancing by staff, hand sanitizing stations & screens enclosing counters at the museum shop, café & sweet shop.

This was such an unexpected and amazing experience. The Museum was recommended by a friend of a friend who lives in Belfast. (She had donated an antique stove to the museum.) Such a great way to discover different aspects of Irish history and life. We were running a bit late so we only stayed for two hours so we will have to return when we are in Belfast again. Honestly, you will need at least four hours to see and do everything. The Museum has actors describing life in the different buildings and after one, my son stage whispered to me "Is she speaking English?" after which the actor dropped the heavy Belfast dialogue and spoke in a more neutral accent. Hilarious!

Christmas at the Folk Museum 2021 was the most magical Christmas experience our children have ever had. We have visited serval Santa’s with our young family of 4 and none compare to the “real Santa” that our kids still fondly talk off. Santa spent lots of time chatting to the kids and finding out what they wanted for Christmas. Santa’s room was cosy and warm with the fire lit. Santa posed for photos with the family, nothing was a bother. Our five year old daughter was in utter amazement when Anna greeted her outside, she was so pleasant and spent time chatting to the kids etc. There was fantastic live music in the church to listen to and we finished off our day with buns and hot chocolates. All in all a 10/10 and we will be booking for Christmas 2022.

Excellent and very large outdoor arrangement of replica and reconstructed buildings ranging from a large church to tiny workmen's cottages. Some sections were closed or still with limited access, however three very good hours were spent there. Those of us of a certain age can dimly remember our grandparents homes looking like that. Many memories came back. Younger ones can only ask 'was it really like that in the olden days?'

It would easy to spend far longer on a nice sunny day, which it was not. There is a lot of walking involved! The on site café was very good.

Visited mid-week early February so although it was dry it was rather cold.
Most of the exhibits were open with personnel available to talk about the history of the buildings, people and life from the times.
The pharmacist was particularly interesting as he was definitely living in the times of the building and couldn't compare the life of the times (1900's) to todays (2022) life.
The museum was fairly quiet, with only a few small school groups, and these stayed mainly in the town setting.
This was my second visit and I'll probably go back, but on a warmer day.
It can be a long walk around the complete museum.

We are members of NMNI and love stopping into the folk park periodically. It’s nice that it’s familiar enough that the kids can determine the agenda and yet parents know all areas are interesting, informative, and safe.

Print shop man is always a delight to visit. No matter how many times the kids (ages 4-9 in our extended party) hear his stories, they truly enjoy visiting his shop. They are quiet and listen intently to what he has to say. He has a quiet, calm way about him that engages with the children and adults in a sincere way.

The weavers shop was open and active that day as well, and the kids (and adults!) we’re fascinated at this organ of fabric being played before our eyes. It was as much of a performance as it was an art. She, too, was kind and engaging to answer all our myriad of questions.

The blacksmith was not open this day, which is a pity as he’s also a big draw for our lot. He, too, engages with the children sincerely and manages to teach them loads and pique their interest in a very natural, conversational way.

In short, we love popping in for an hour or two to the excellent cafe. Or spending - as on this occasion - 5 hours just playing around the village square. Or taking a picnic to the countryside and enjoying the whole day!!

Went to the folk museum and had a good time even in the cold weather. Really worthwhile to see and very helpful staff throughout. Could do with the odd tidy up but I suppose it is that time of year. Would have liked to visit the Transport Museum as well on the one ticket but was unable to do so. It would be very expensive to do bot places on the one day, especially if you were a family of any size. Missed the fact that the blacksmith wasn't open as I would have liked to have seen it in operation. I fail to see that the photo for the folk museum shows the Transport museum. Had a nice bite to eat in the cafe - food very good as were the young staff.
