On a hot day in August, the cooling influence of the breeze coming off the water is a delight.

Stopped for a couple of hours to cycle the easy 8 mile stretch to the east of the reservoir. I'm a beginner cyclist and had no issue at all (couple of inclines that I had to do n foot), but the pathway is well maintained.
The only reason I didn't give it an excellent review is because of the toilets (near the car park), which were graffitied and grubby, and I felt the parking charges were on the steep side.

Why is it in the midlands, all the reservoirs have their paths so far from the water? Seems geared up more for bikes (apart from the Sykes lane area) than pedestrians. Could have done with interpretation boards for the landmarks rather than just for the wildlife. Car parking is extortionate in price as well and has limited time choices. On the plus side, if you are into bbq's then there are areas set up close to car parks. Dogs on lead only due to sheep.
Tip; if you are coming by car during the week away from school hols, there is limited verge parking down by the sailing school/campsite

Another pleasant part of this very diverse reservoir that is large enough to offer the full range from this quiet nature reserve to the loud water park.

Lovely area with a path running for several miles around the coast. Ideal for walkers, joggers and cyclists. Plenty of bird life can be seen here, and don't forget to visit Normanton Church whilst here.

I really enjoyed walking around this reserve and saw some amazing birds .
There were a couple of little things that i would say need improving one of them being the feeders in Tree sparrow hide at the entrance .
It looks like they have not been touched for ages and were full of old food that had gone black .
The very fact that there is a huge sponsorship sign from "Eyebrook " Wild bird feeds where you view the birds looks pretty bad to be fair .
I would also point out that the staff there were not the friendliest i have met and serving us seemed like we were putting them out .
Other than that it was a great day out .

There are a few things that would help
1. Knowing you need to display your permit in the car before you get in the visitor centre, as you then have to walk back to the car to display it.
2. Bird feeders being stocked at “tree sparrow hide” and old food being discarded before it’s mouldy.
3. If the staff are volunteers fair do’s, if they are getting a wage, a smile doesn’t go a miss, or enthusiasm either.
We will return many times I’m sure the birds were stunning and the hides well positioned, Rutland is an exceptional part of the UK

arrived here on hired bikes. Volunteer/staff very helpful - we were able to hire binoculars and visit several hides. There were clearly regulars in the hides but I was disappointed to note that none of them wore masks even though it was clearly requested on the front of each hide. We also waited politely for space because of restrictions.
