Karl-Ivar actually called us the day before our original booking to suggest that we go hunting for the lights that very evening, had he not, we would have surely missed the most spectacular sight of our lives due to bad weather. Seeing the lights from deep within the mountains, just outside of Tromso was truly spectacular and the constant supply of sweet tea and biscuits helped keep us from feeling tired. We would highly recommend this personal touch with a real expert. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the nice feedback and superlatives.
Yes a period then it was a challenge to find the Northern Lights because the weather was very poor.
But I never go out if I don't believe in it
that we are going to find the northern lights.

Chose this guide because he announces on his website being a photographer and was hoping for some special spots. Booked an aurora tour, tour got cancelled, ok, can happen once, asked for another chance, got an email with a confirmation of day and an additional offer for a reduced priced fjord tour, which I accepted. Right at the start of the fjord tour I was again told that there will be no aurora tour that night, despite the email saying the opposite. The lady on the fjord tour was nice, although not telling a lot, the tour was ok, but there would have been many more spots worth visiting (have been there before), but didn't happen due to early return time, the so called lunch wasn't worth it, the tea awfully sweet. Definitely not worth the regular price, there are a lot more tour operators in Tromso who offer much more, sometimes for even less money. The guide's English is not good enough for a decent conversation (unusual for Norwegians), additionally he is not capable of handling his paypal account, I sent him his payment half an hour after the tour ended, it is off my credit card ever since, waiting for him in his account, despite that he keeps nagging me to send it again, cause he doesn't know how to get it - one should at least be able to handle his business tools. The other critics on this site confirm my experience.
Definitely no recommendation, go elsewhere for a decent in depth experience in excellent English!

This person was on a Northern Lights trip and paid with pay pal and since she was on a Northern Lights tour she got offer to be on a fjord tour by car at a reduced price NOK 800, -. I have been running for 6 years and have never received such a document, I called pay pal without them being able to figure out anything. I have no late email that this she must fix in, neither I nor pay pal do it.
But now she complains in my google English and that i am incompetent since i don't understand paypal.
Today she was so angry with my reminder of the NOK 800
that she went straight into TripAdvisor and gave me a lonely
as revenge. She does not even manage to tell and it was the northern lights or the heavy price reduced
The fjord tour she reviews. But I still hope that she can pay for it. That said, this is the first thing that has caught me in 6 years.

It is understandable that you can’t force a showing of the northern lights. That’s not the problem here. The problem here is that Karl-Ivar's tour didn’t give us the satisfaction that a normal northern-lights chasing tour would give. A proper guided tour would have given us more information about local history, traditions and most importantly: the northern lights. We did a couple of tours in Tromso (Reindeer, Sami culture and Fjord-tours) and they gave us so much rich information about Norway and its history and traditions. We feel that this wasn’t the case with Karl-Ivar's tour on the 11th of January.
This is because of the following:
- The tour is short compared to other Northern light tours. We spoke to many tourists who went the distance in miles and hours. We did not with Karl-Ivar.
- He stays in the Tromso vicinity. Other tourists that went further inland (1 or 2 hour drive from Tromso) actually saw the northern lights. They also claimed that their guides said the weather around Tromso was too bad and that there was too much light pollution for a good viewing of the northern lights on the 11th of january. Others tourguides that stayed in Tromso actually cancelled their tour because of the weather.
- All of our stops were near houses, motorways and parking stops with a lot of light pollution.
-The provided food was not worth the money. Karl-Ivar provided us with a small cup of canned tomato soup, 1 small bun, some hot sweet drink and 2 cookies. Other tours provided their paying customers with own made food or at more fulfilling food.
So we would again like to mention that we understand that the northern lights are not always visible. But we paid a lot of money (he is more expensive than other tours) for a well informed and experienced guide who would show us the right spots, drive the right distance, give us a great well informed tour and be truthful about what to expect. We did feel that this was not the case with Karl-Ivar's tour.
We contacted Karl-Ivar about our findings but his response was not very pleasant.

Imagine that so sour one can become when one does not see the northern lights. Of course I newspaper all claims that depend on
that those who have written this do not have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the realities.
The 11/1 was an evening in Tromsø where a storm was reported as good as most places.
I received a call from another supplier who had canceled and had fully booked the next day and thus could not bring these and they further briefly conveyed some of what our tour contains.
I told them I had to have time to check
whether it was possible to carry out and could see the northern lights. I found out that we actually had an opportunity and answered yes. Had those who came with me they had found out that my trip is 5 hours but that I extend it if it is a Northern Lights. They also found that we serve tomato soup with bread, as well as tea and biscuits.
Something we get good feedback on.
And then essentially that it was a real storm,
where we first started we had to turn because we did not see a meter in front of us because of snow and wind.
(Most places were 23-28 m / s where we drove
It was 15-20 m / s.) We turned around and found a place with good weather and a lot of stars. We were the only place where it was possible to drive and which was by far the best place. We helped everyone set up a camera and took pictures of everyone we sent them
the day after.
We drove on the inside of Kvaløya and it is directly wrong that we only stopped where there was electric light. We stopped
several places where it was completely dark, when we stopped for where there was electric light it was known to check the sky. We were not just around Tromsø we were
actually on another island, Ringvassøya and there it is over 5 miles. We were really very lucky this evening for all the places we stopped and saw many stars. That means that the most important job of finding the places where we could see the northern lights, we managed.
But unfortunately we do not have the Northern Lights. We must only regret that it would not come.
But we are proud of ourselves that we went out in such a hopeless weather and the whole tia found good places.
Most had canceled this evening and none of the people I have talked to have seen the Northern Lights.
I always check the weather until I leave and I am 100% sure that as they make it better weather other places are completely wrong.
It is very sad that they fall for the temptation to tell that is bad.
The end of the show was that I received an email from those who give this feedback that they wanted the money back
otherwise I would get a poor evaluation to tripadwisor.
Unfortunately, I cannot say yes to an equal offer when I myself feel that I had rather burda got praised by the implementation.
I refer to feedback 7/1 2019 which I get from a group from Italy "Hig success Northern light tour" I believe that the feedback balances
the story from these. I am driving for 6 years now and fortunately I have only had two times before
that people do not handle that they pay, because then not
see the northern lights.

Although weather and sky conditions were very bad (cloudy everywhere + rain and snow) our guide Marit drove us inland (southeast), we got to see a great show of northern lights. The sky opened, stars appeared and a great dancing northern lights. We were very lucky being our first attempt, Marit's instict got us to the right spot. Very recommended for everyone and for people with young children!

For us, it was really enjoyable to spend a day finding good photography spots and enjoying the daylight.
Our guide, Ms. Marett, was really knowledgable and gave us great insights into the life and history of the Sami.
The car was in good repair and the food very nice.
100pct, would do this again.

Four of us traveling together on a cruise signed up for the photographic tour. As it turns out, we were the only ones on the tour, so it was very personal. Our guide took us to her house to fit us with good, warm boots for the cold, wet weather we happened to have that day. She took us along beautiful fjords, out to the ocean and to picturesque abandoned fishing villages. She is Sami and told us about some of the Sami culture. We went to her house to get boots. She suggested we borrow some boots since we will be walking in mud. She had several sizes of warm rain boots and we all found some that fit well enough. She even had jackets we could borrow.
She provided us with lunch in a “cabin” on the beach, open in the front to the ocean. We sat on reindeer hides that she brought. She also had some jackets to use as lap robes. She brought us excellent homemade bread and soup, cookies and remarkably good strawberry tea.
It rained all day, which she said was unusual, so we didn’t get the scenery we had hoped for, but it was a good tour since we learned about Sami life and life in the north in general. She is the daughter of a reindeer herder near the North Cape, a 1-hour drive from Russia, and her son is also a nomadic reindeer herder. All in all, the tour was a complete bust as far as photography due to the weather, yet we all agreed it was the most interesting tour of the trip.
There was one glitch that kept me from giving this tour 5 stars. The website is confusing. It seemed to imply that you needed to pay by credit card up front to reserve the tour, which I did, but I didn't get a receipt. At the end of the tour the guide said that we hadn't paid and I couldn't remember whether we had or not (we had arranged a lot of different tours), so we paid her in cash. We eventually got the credit card charge backed out, but it took a while and a lot of emails back and forth. I get the impression that most people reserve without paying up front.

It's true that your payment was something wrong,
What happened, I thought it was hanging out in the system.
But now I see you paid, you got the money back.
We have been on for 5 years now and you are actually the only case.
That you should let it go beyond their review here was very disappointing.

Karl was very knowledgeable in terms of photography. He'll help you to set up your cameras to take the best pictures. We were driven to a few spots. Dress up warm, it can get really cold. Lifetime experience with a big chance to improve your photography skills.

I took the photo safari on Kvaløya with Marit who was brilliant, friendly and found all the best places for photos. It was a great tour even with the challenging weather conditions (wind & snow). Highly recommended. Tusen takk Marit! :-)

We did the fiords tour with Karl Ivan which we really enjoyed. He stopped at so many beautiful places for us to take photos. The soup, bread and tea were really welcome as it was a cold day . There had been lots of snow falling over the previous two days. Karl answered so many questions and gave us information. Being a retired teacher I just laughed when I saw a class of young children going to do their games lesson. They were all off up the road for their ski-Ing lesson . The family of wild reindeer by the road was a highlight.
We have lots of lasting memories and photos of the day and we would recommend this tour very much.
Thankyou Karl for a lovely day in the arctic landscape.

Thank you very much, for your feedback.
The fjordtur by car contains slopes of beautiful nature pearls.
And that you also bring some of the local community, like that
like here a big party bed children aged 6 to 7 who were going on a ski trip.
And it's good to have a teacher. And of course, is
It's fun to stop taking pictures of the reindeer.
We stopped at the outside where the scenery gets wilder and the mountains higher,
then you realize that nature is big and beautiful and how small we are.

Is the tour suitable for my disabled husband. He has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair as he has limited mobility.

Hello Karl-Ivar,
We are planning to come to Tromso in December (23rd to 29th) 2017. We would like to know what kind of tours your company can provide?

Hello!
I would like to consult before booking a date, corresponding on April 19 this year ..
Is it possible to see the northern lights? I only have my stay date with my friend on 19/4 and 20/4. We do not want to book to be disappointed because I will not have more time in Tromso.
We have been told that by those dates it is impossible given that the Northen Lights only show up until March.
I wait your answer.
Thank you so much.

Hi, we want to go to Tromso and visit the Northern Lights by April 19th or April 22th.. Is there any chance that we get to see them without any troubles? Both 19 an 22.
Thanks!

Well, it is always recommended with wool during the winter. But at this guide, you can borrow some warm jackets, pants and boots, so no freezing on that tour :))

I have plenty of room for 8 people in my car so it runs fine.
It is a great advantage to have ullklær underscore, otherwise warm clothes, hat and gloves.
