The walk up to the cliffs will take your breath away but the view is well worth the effort. I could have stood looking at the colour of the rocks and the sea below all day.

We walked the hiking path until the weather made us stop. Amazing views as we walked up the path.
We then drove to the Visitors Center and took the bus ride, again an amazing view of the cliffs.

Amazing cliff views! no wonder why it is one of the Best in Europe. Have enough parking space. Due to bad weather and we had our 3 yr old son with us we were not able to complete the hike so definitely would go back to reach the top. We just reach up to the stones.

If driving yourself go early to avoid the tour buses, bathrooms at lower parking lot, we avoided the visitors center and walked up to view point. We arrived at 08:30 and had the view to ourselves, by the time we left numerous groups were arriving.

If you're into awesome vistas, they don't get much more panoramic than these immense cliffs. There's a small car park (charge) then a long steep-ish walk to the cliffs (though I believe there's a shuttle bus for a charge too). We were there on a very windy grey day (and fortunately just missed the rain) - a shame as a blue sky would have made a difference. But it was still worth the trip as the view was tremendous. Their claim to be much higher than the Cliffs of Moher might be valid but at this scale it's hard to tell. Personally, I'd say go to both (I have!) as they offer different perspectives on this rugged coast.

absolutely beautiful. Very rugged, not like Cliffs of Moher, no borders between you and cliffs. Just a suggestion, pay the extra 5 pounds to drive up to the viewing point. It is a very long walk

Like others have said, it's a bit of a hike, but it's doable. We had a nice walk up to the cliffs, then had hot chocolate while we took in the views. Of course, this was one of the only rainy days that we had, but such is Ireland! We did have a little bit of a hard time finding the cliffs, our GPS took us up near the Glencolmcille Folk Village.

Really nice drive to get here and then the view was not disappointing, it is quite a walk from the car park but you can pay to get a shuttle bus, it’s stunning

All the superlatives in the world fail to describe the reality of ascending the Slieve League Cliffs
We were rewarded with views which will last a lifetime
The views from the top are unsurpassable
Tip: if you can’t get into the car park nearest to the cliffs, park in the visitors centre car park and take a bus in - dogs are allowed - for a few euros each - a truly brilliant experience

There are no words to describe the beauty of the cliffs. It’s almost a religious experience to see them. I suggest buying a ticket for the bus to take you all the way to the top if you don’t want to walk the mile from the car park. The driver will give you lots of history that you might not get otherwise.

For now you cannot travel , but usually if you don't have a car get the bus to Donegal and from there a guided tour

The best place to park is on site at the top car park you will have to get out of the car to open the big gate then just drive to the top its an amazing view. Once at the top and parked there's plenty of hiking to do hope this helps.

Hello - how does this compare to Big Sur? I guess to get to the point, if we've seen Big Sur living here in the Bay Area - is this something that we can skip, or do you still recommend going? thank you in advance

Ireland is Ireland. I don’t believe that you only need to compare the actual waterfall, cliff, castle, whatever. There’s the getting there, the experience itself, the afters and the mood of the day.
How to define? Is my better different than your better etc ? I don’t know.
I do recommend you experience it. It was wet and windy ( like a baby’s backside) when we saw it, and my daughters struggle to get there ( mostly in her head) and the sheep sheltering behind the rocks all combined to make it rewarding. My sons fashion runners were wet and we had to change back down the road.
Some people hate all that. It makes me feel alive. Lettuce snow your decision and how you get on.
Good luck on your travels. Enjoy Ireland and have an oul pint for me

We are heading to Ireland in about three weeks. Would like to visit Slieve League but won't have a lot of time. Will be driving there from Derry and heading for Kilronan Castle. Are you able to give more precise directions/instructions for making the most of our visit there. I do appreciate the advice about the parking area.

Hi; I have checked a few routes and it looks like Derry to Ardara and then down to Carrick is the best route. Ardara is a lovely little heritage town with several weaving centres The drive from Ardara to Sleive League is quite lovely. When you get close to Sleive League you will see signs that go to the Pilgrims Way--don't go there. Go to Sleive League proper. Then you will have to go over to Donegal and down to Kilronan from there. Hope this helps.

What would be the best town to choose as a base to visit slieve league? Teelin seems closest but is there an easier town to stay in that you can then travel to Teelin to? Will be arriving in Donegal from. Dublin, unfortunately we will not have a car so will be using the public transport (trains/buses). Would probably arrive the one day and visit slieve league the next. Thank you!

Sorry, not really sure about this. If you had a car, almost anywhere in County Donegal (we actually were in the very north part of County Sligo the night before and the night after...and it was not an issue, the drive time there and back). I would look into what transportation is available from Donegal Town, which would be a great place to stay with no rental car.

If you park at the first car park and don't go through the gate, can you see anything from there? I have a fear of driving to the top and some in our group could not walk. So wondering if it is worth driving to the first lot or not. Thanks

You would see a hill in front of you. It would be a couple of km walk to the cliff.
